Mayor of Male’ City, Hon. Adam Azim, participated in The Mayor’s Compass podcast alongside Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi, Secretary General of United Cities and Local Governments Asia-Pacific (UCLG ASPAC), on the sidelines of the 2026 UCLG ASPAC Council Meeting in Haikou City, Hainan Province, People’s Republic of China. During the discussion, Mayor Adam Azim shared Male’ City’s experiences in addressing urban development challenges, including high population density, increasing pressure on development of urban infrastructure and essential public services, and climate resilience. He also highlighted the significance of Male’ City’s first Voluntary Local Review (VLR) in strengthening evidence-based urban planning and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The conversation further emphasised the importance of sustainable urban development, resilient supply chains, and international city-to-city cooperation, particularly in addressing the unique challenges faced by small island cities.
