This is why I’m against the continued corporatization and globalization of major American sports, pricing out the fans like this who were brought together by a game they love
Keep it up and there won’t be 80 year olds who care in 20 years
People call being a sports fan a one-sided relationship. You give a team decades, and it doesn’t even know your name.
Then you see a video like this. An 81-year-old man in a Brewers jersey, crying, with his wife next to him, watching his team win the World Series. The Brewers came to Milwaukee in 1970, when he was about 25. They made the World Series once, in 1982, and lost in seven games. He waited 56 years, through decades of losing seasons, to see this. You don’t see an 81-year-old in that video. You see the kid who started rooting for them.
The psychologist Daniel Wann has spent years studying why fans stay. His research found that identifying with a local team gives people real connections: the friends you watch with, the strangers you high-five, the shared language of a city. In one of his studies of older fans, with an average age around 71, people who identified more strongly with a local team reported feeling less lonely.
So maybe it’s not as one-sided as it looks. The team never learns his name. But it gave him 56 years of people to share it with, and one night he’ll never forget.
Spot on- hate has no home here
"Hate is lonely when no one notices it."

My thoughts on how online hate is winning, but how you can render it as powerless as it should be

Someone needs to be fired
I hope this is fake. The leaked Penguins Hometown Remix jerseys look like something straight out of Chuck E. Cheese. Whose idea was it to add polka dots and make the logo look like it’s on cheese? 🐧🧀 #LetsGoPens

High School on Friday Nights, CFB on Saturdays, and the NFL on Sundays and Monday night
That’s what we need to be a proper society
“The NFL just wants to play on every fuckin day at every hour. If the NFL was smart, they’d go back to just playing every game on Sunday… We’re getting to the point where it’s gonna suck. They’re gonna play Tuesday and Wednesday and we’re gonna have like 5 games at noon on a Sunday and they’re all gonna suck” -Big Cat

Jameis deserves better than the Giants
Ask somebody around the league for their best Jameis Winston story, and it's very rarely some silly or hilarious tale.
It's stuff like this.
Here's Giants OC Matt Nagy on "The Schrager Hour", taking us through the day Jameis was benched for JJ McCarthy. @OmahaProd @ESPNNFL
