It’s easier to buy an arsenal of guns in this country than to get power to my house in a major urban area a week after a weak hurricane…. @CenterPoint

'Would this be acceptable anywhere else?': This New York Mom says her pediatrician now charges an annual fee of $350/child 'just to be patients' — and she has 3 kids. How common is it? finance.yahoo.com/news/accep… Read it. It’s not what you think.

Small victory: I explained to a patient why the alkaline water they had been paying $100 a month for wouldn’t do anything and they actually believed the science not the salesman. Made my day.

I’ve always said If you want to stimulate the economy by creating jobs just get CMS to make a few new reporting rules. poof. You’ve now created 1-3 FT high paid jobs at every hospital. I don’t endorse this painful reality.
The quality measure complex has exploded over the past decade A new @JAMA_current study finds that Johns Hopkins spent >$5.6 million + 108,000 hours in a single year to report 162 measures The costs across all US health systems is likely *astronomical* bit.ly/3WTIjUY

Felons can own hospitals. Bankers can own hospitals. Insurance company can own hospitals. Hedge funds can own hospitals. Private Equity can own hospitals. Anyone and everyone can own hospitals except physicians. Not #healthcare #mallhousecall @michaelcburgess @RogerMarshallMD @RepMcCormick @RepGuthrie – at Washington, DC

Who are the racketeers of healthcare? Let me name thee one by one… 1. Healthcare Insurers - denials, delays, prior auth, the list is endless… 2. Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) - rely on kickbacks to get paid off in exchange for “tier”-ing what drugs are and aren’t available or covered within insurers 3. Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs) - key player in drug shortages (especially generic, inpatient drugs) for squeezing out suppliers in exchange for…you guessed it, kickbacks. 4. Private Equity firms - the most honest of the racketeers (they openly just want to make $) but strip healthcare orgs into skeletons to buff financial spreadsheets geared at a 3-5year “flip” and sale for profit #USHealthcare🤬

My dad ( @DrBerk ) died unexpectedly on Friday. His life was marked by joy and humor, kindness and compassion, and a deep deep love for students, medicine, and his family. He leaves behind a legacy and a family that misses him very much. Obit here: dignitymemorial.com/obituari…

Today a patient jumped out of bed and tried to hit me because I wouldn’t order an injection of morphine, Ketorolac, dexamethasone, and Valium. I had offered them the oral versions only. zero repercussions for the patient. :-/ #workplaceviolence #doctorsarepeople

What if lawyers weren’t allowed to own law firms or chefs weren’t allowed to own restaurants? Sounds absurd, but it’s a reality for one profession: doctors. Excellent article by @SenatorLankford @DrBrian4Health wsj.com/articles/end-obamaca…

Doctos make too much. <laughs in insurance billions>
This is what health insurance companies do. They find a commonly performed procedure costing them money, cover it with red tape, then attribute their actions to physician greed. Aetna did it with cataract surgery last year. This is just the beginning. statnews.com/2023/05/15/unit…

Once I was reviewing a chart for a new patient. ED temp was 95F/35C, other vitals ok. This triggered a a dx/rx for infection. Ok. CBC was fine. Chemistries, nothing stood out. BUN 17. Creatinine 1.1. Ok. But all of that was reframed by this image 👇🏼 Couple lessons. 1/6
