Bit of a break from politics. Here's a wonderful & very emotional clip from Band of Brothers.
WWII has ended. The German forces have surrendered and a German general asks permission to give a parting address to his soldiers.
The men listen as the General's words are translated by an American soldier. Its interesting to observe the faces of the allied troops, as they slowly realise that the words of the German General apply just as well to themselves.
Then the unspoken thought arises. Have they been fighting and killing their own brothers?
The overall scene is a brilliant comment on who really suffers from wars. Its a very succinct and understated message that has more impact for the subdued manner by which it is conveyed.
IMHO a wonderful piece of screenplay.

Luxon on Ron Mark: "Maybe he's trying to COSPLAY..."
Also Luxon:
"Can you rule out someone like that becoming Defence Minister".
Legacy media, chock full of DEI hires itself, is unhappy with NZ First candidate Ron Mark's criticism of DEI in the Defence Forces.
Ron Marks is right, but he gets no back up from National leader Chris Luxon, who accuses him of "cosplaying Pete Hegseth".
Of course one of the best things NZ could do for defence is sack all of the current hierarchy and replace them with Mr Hegseth. (US Secretary of War).
As he's not available, it sounds like Ron Marks would be a suitable replacement.
The damn fools in charge of the $200 million dollar Manawanui and who were sailing it that afternoon were unqualified and unbelievably, had no idea how to release an engaged auto-pilot.
The National party (and especially Luxon's) own woke commitment to DEI is why they continue to support this insanity.
IMHO there should have been a lot more Defence force staff charged over this incident.
The DEI that caused it was driven right from the top.
Another disappointing effort from Mr Luxon. Here's the full story.
National MP Maureen Pugh asked Greens leader James Shaw about a letter that her local council had sent to him requesting clarification on climate change.
Shaw’s reported response was that he "did not have time for people who do not believe in the science".
Pugh was questioned by Shaw's media comrades. She said she believed that climate changes, but had yet to see evidence of a human cause, adding “I am waiting on the evidence from the Minister (Shaw).”
This statement caused a deluge of criticism from within Pugh's own National party. Deputy leader Nicola Willis stated the science was clear- that human emissions contribute, and said she had “a lot she (Pugh) can read, she’s gonna be doing a lot of reading.”
Leader Luxon said he too had seen the evidence and asserted there was "no place in the National caucus for climate deniers or minimisers".
Within hours Pugh issued a statement agreeing human induced climate change was real. She also apologised to Luxon.
Luxon then spent days in the legacy media throwing Pugh under the bus.
IMHO it was yet another example of how Luxon and Willis have bullied and cowed into silence any Nat MP who disagrees with their progressive/ globalist political views.
I also think Maureen was right the first time.
Possibly not the worst thing Luxon has ever done, but pretty bad all the same.
Giving flowers & kissing up to a departing Marxist revolutionary who was so extreme even a left wing basket case like TV One didn't want her.
She despises you Mr Luxon. What is the matter with you?

If Sydney University can find the money to pay Ardern, it’s time to take a chainsaw to the $1,237 million they received from taxpayers last year alone.
It’s sickening that hard working Australians are now being forced fund Ardern‘s luxury lifestyle.
It makes you want to vomit.
Jacinda Ardern has been gifted a privileged position at Sydney University as a “professor of practice”.
The University released a statement:
“Her work will focus on empathetic leadership, social cohesion and civic trust; further developing new approaches to global and values-based leadership, as well as exploring new ways to address global health challenges centred on equity, inclusion and wellbeing.”
This has to be some type of sick joke.
“Empathetic leadership – equity and inclusion” – this from a woman that smirked about dividing society into two classes of people.
“Civic trust” – from a woman who destroyed civic trust and will be remembered by history as saying “we will be your single source of truth” – and then proceeded to tell lie after lie about the so-called vaccine.
The only university Ardern is fit to lecture at is one in North Korea or Cuba.
But her appointment only confirms what we already know – our universities are no longer places of education and learning – they are Marxist indoctrination camps, so Ardern will fit in well.
Just another reason to vote One Nation.

If Christopher Luxon really has no idea how DEI is crippling New Zealand's Defence Forces he is too damn ignorant to be Prime Minister. EOS. This is a very critical issue.
NZ First's Ron Mark wants DEI out of our Military
Christopher Luxon implied that Ron Mark is cosplaying Pete Hegseth, the United States Secretary of War. Some commentators have said that when Luxon said that, he was cosplaying Jacinda Ardern.

Winston Peters is dead right about New Zealand's DEI defence forces.
Fancy Senior Officers being forced to sign a"gender equality charter".
Defence Force Chief Short is gone now but who knows if his replacement is any better.
(Its notable that Army Chief Rose King was appointed under Judith Collin's watch. Judith has always said she is a staunch feminist.)
As Winston says, its BS to bring this warped ideology into the NZ Defence Forces.
Like termites, hollowing the forces out from the inside. Something that provides a pointer as to who the people are behind all of this woke infiltration.
They're not our friends.
Fancy that. A Professor at Sydney University who is so poorly educated she can't pronounce "jeopardise".
Jacinda Ardern's appointment is a political act and another stark example of how completely the left have captured our education sector.

Apparently the Sydney Morning Herald had to turn off comments to stop New Zealanders saying what they think of Jacinda Ardern's new appointment. Yes, she inspired that much "social cohesion"...

Who else is getting heartily sick of the left's persistent propensity for dishonesty?
Bolsanaro just got robbed of an election win in Brazil. If he had won, he would have faced years of lawfare. As is happening with President trump.
In New Zealand right now, they're trying to de-legitimise the election before its even been held. Using changes to electoral enrolment (or registration) laws as an excuse.
Their complaints rest on the false assertion that by changing NZ's registration limit back to what it always was voters will be "disenfranchised".
In fact New Zealander voters customarily had to enrol around a month before the election. Up until the 1990s when enrolment could be done until the day before the election.
Jacinda Ardern changed that again in 2020 and voters were able to enrol right up until the end of voting day. Causing a longer than usual counting time.
UK and Australian voters have to enrol a couple of weeks before the election. Voter turnout is still remarkably high. (see video).
Its nonsense to say an earlier cut off point for enrolment will make the election illegitimate. IMHO, the only reason the left dislike the new limit is it makes it harder for them to cheat.

‘Mainstream media’ are really a propaganda dissemination service now. What they are doing to manipulate the outcome of NZ’s Nov 7 2026 election reminds me of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014) and Part 2 (2015). The Mockingjay movies most directly showed media as a decisive force in manipulating the result of election. This undermines democracy.
They should receive no public taxpayer funding.
They should be able to be prosecuted.
Public information campaigns need to do more to educate people about the methods being used to brainwash them and how to protect themselves and their children.
Public ‘servant’ employment contracts could include clauses such as: “The Employee must perform their duties impartially and professionally. The Employee must not use their position, authority, work time, employer resources, systems, or platforms to push, embed, promote, or impose their personal political, religious, or ideological views or agendas where those views or agendas are not relevant to the Employee’s role or the Employer’s legitimate mission or activities.
Conduct that amounts to the misuse of position in this way may constitute misconduct (or serious misconduct, depending on severity and impact) and may result in disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal, following a fair process.”
Which parties do our state broadcasters favour?
I ran an analysis on my own transcripts of RNZ Midday Report and 1News over the last month and this was the result:
---
Favourable election coverage of parties polling under 20% on RNZ Midday Report and 1News from 25 Sept to 24 Oct 2026 for news items longer than 30 seconds, rated favourable, neutral or unfavourable:

No news items longer than 30 seconds: Alliance Party, Animal Justice Party, Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party, Conservative Party NZ, Free Palestine, New Zealand Loyal, NZ Outdoors & Freedom Party, Te Tai Tokerau Party, Vision New Zealand, Women's Rights Party
Method: we read 51 bulletin transcripts (30 from 1News 6pm, 21 from RNZ Midday Report). A news item is continuous coverage naming a party that runs longer than 30 seconds. Each item was rated by reading its transcript against the same rubric for every party. Airtime is estimated from the transcript timestamps. An item naming several parties counts for each of them. Tone ratings are judgement calls.

This was the prompt I used with with Grok Bot Pro+:
What percentage of RNZ and 1News coverage of the election has favourably featured or mentions the Opportunity Party compared with other parties? Search through the transcripts of my news archives over the last month for clips lasting more than 30 seconds. Compare using a table showing all available parties who are likely to get under 20% of the Party Vote in the coming election and list from highest to lowest by estimated time on screen and include the number of news items. Format as plain text so I can share on socials.
