This is a complete punch in the gut. Rahul was a tremendous spirit, extremely kind-hearted, and so so giving to support fellow South Asians in politics. He was a great friend and mentor to @TheWLP and fought hard to make this country a better place.
Statement from the Chopra family: It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Rahul Chopra, on March 11, due to undiagnosed diabetes and the resulting complications. Rahul’s tenacity and passion to make the world a fairer and more just place led him to a meteoric tenure in Democratic politics, helping lead U.S. Senator Mark Kelly (D-Arizona) to victory and maintain the Senate Majority to, most recently, serving as research director at the DCCC in their efforts to win back the House.
Rahul’s impressive career was only matched by his ability to befriend everyone he met. His unbounded optimism, kind-heartedness, and instantly recognizable laugh made all of our lives better – and will be greatly missed.

20 years ago, I interned on the Hill through @TheWLP, a program designed to get young South Asians more politically engaged. At the time, we had countless conversations about lack of representation in DC (I, like of my fellow interns, worked for mostly white male MOCs).
🧵 As the first South Asian woman elected to the House of Representatives & one of only two dozen naturalized citizens in Congress, I am honored to serve as the new Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement.

So proud of my boy and @TheWLP alum @KapurGautam leading his charge. I remember him talking about this dream years ago. Humble, hard working, and a great ball player himself :)
We spoke with @KapurGautam about @IndiaHoops and his dreams for basketball engagement in India and its diaspora:
