This morning, I attended a press conference at City Hall to highlight the importance of road safety in our community and across Ottawa.
With 32 lives already lost on Ottawa’s roads this year, it’s a serious reminder that we all have a responsibility to keep our streets safe.
Please put your phones down, stay focused on the road, slow down and be mindful of those around you. No text or phone call is worth someone’s life.
Thank you to Mayor Mark Sutcliffe for his leadership on this important issue and to our first responders for their continued dedication to keeping our communities safe.

Today’s federal announcement marks an important investment in helping Canadians lower their home energy bills and reduce emissions.
Reaching the ambition of retrofitting one million homes will mean bringing together a range of complementary solutions. Canadians also need access to affordable financing and solutions that support comprehensive home retrofits, including improvements to energy efficiency and climate resilience.
There is a significant opportunity to build on today’s measures with complementary approaches that help more households undertake deeper retrofits, mobilize additional investment and deliver lasting savings. Municipalities have an important role to play in making those solutions work for communities across Canada.
FCM looks forward to working with the federal government to turn this ambition into lasting, measurable results.

Canada is facing a nation-defining moment. Decisions being made today about sovereignty, economic strength and ambitious goals will shape our country for years to come.
Federal investments and major projects will land in communities across the country. Making those investments successful means ensuring communities are ready for the growth that comes with them.
