Every post I see today wringing its hands about the Dems not voting for CLARITY is trying to frame them as anti-American.
Maybe the outcome would have been different if the current president wasn't running a multi billion dollar crypto grift from the Oval Office.
Just an idea.

Seeing a lot of people conflating the BTC move with the gold/silver debasement trade. Worth being clear on the risk here
Gold and silver ripped because real buyers are repricing debasement. BTC ripped because billions got liquidated in 4 days, mostly shorts then some longs. Not the same trade
BTC has traded as a liquidity/beta asset every single time its been tested, not a debasement hedge. Could the narrative shift to "BTC is gold" and real buyers step in? Sure
But if this was stops and leverage doing the work, not a genuine re-rating in what BTC is "for", the move has no real floor under it, and thats before you factor in the Nasdaq coming under its own narrative pressure on the AI trade/revenue model
Mid 60s doesnt look that far away if the narrative gets tested and fails this week PCE/NVDA Wed, Warsh Fri
Gold has central banks under it. BTC has leverage. Two very different things holding the price up
Dont forget to take profits

TL;DR
My automated range-finder system makes the problem with traditional market structure theory pretty obvious π
- Bitcoin spends a huge amount of time ranging.
- The trends you see on the chart (green and red lines) are rare and extremely short-lived.
- Their primary purpose is to move price from one range to the next.
- By the time a trend is confirmed, much of the move is often already over.
- Which means that following the trend often means longing the top or shorting the bottom
βJust follow the trend and long the higher low broβ sounds great in theory. On BTC, it usually means you're one step behind.
Price action since 2024 - daily timeframe.
Market structure is extremely important in analysis and foundational to my automatic range-identification system that I showed in the quoted post.
I've spent many months creating my own market structure system and have learned that common knowledge around it contains many problems.
It's one of those concepts that is very easy to explain as a concept but hard to implement in practice.
"It's easy bro, just look for higher highs and higher lows. Follow the trend."
Anyone who has ever put that to the test knows that's an extreme oversimplification that will bite you in your ass more times than it won't.
There's many reasons - big and small - why this is but there are two big fundamental reason that encompasses most.
In this short thread, I will cover both π

Oil just rug pulled.
Crime season at full speed. 10-15% swings through gaps come daily now.
After every big move we learn insiders opened $100M positions minutes before main announcements.
100% win rate.
Bad for crypto as it sucks capital out of majors.

I have been pretty vocal over the past few months about the fact that the USD was undervalued on a relative growth and rate differential basis versus most of its major counterparties, a reality the market was largely ignoring
The structural drivers speak for themselves: better-than-expected US growth data over the past few months, the fact that the US is a net energy exporter, massive AI and infrastructure spending tailwinds, and the reality that US inflation has continued to trade above the Fed's preferred PCE measure for 61 consecutive months now
That disconnect started to change this week with US rates finally moving. The US 10-Year yield is up 20bp this week, breaking back above 4.50% and climbing 70bp from its yearly lows
Perhaps a focus on macro data is coming back to the top of the agenda, or perhaps the market is testing the the new Fed Chair. Either way, the fundamentals behind this move higher in yields won't change in the short term.
A broader re-rating in USD strength looks to be just around the corner

As I said weeks ago, the US pulls the opposite kind of crude oil from the ground than what our refineries specialize in, thus we must import the right one. There is a friction to us becoming "energy independent" (which is false to say) and it involves heavy investment to retool our refining capacity otherwise we would produce far less efficiently. We are net importers of crude oil so that we can be net exporters of an array of "petroleum products". The administration either doesn't understand this themselves (big doubt) or expects you not to (probably).
There's a lot of confusion out there, including with Trump, that the US has lots of oil to sell to the world.
We do not. We're a net importer of crude (~+3 Mb/d). The EIA reports that fact in great detail every week.
The confusion stems from using the term "petroleum exports" which includes the bodacious amounts of natural gas liquids (NGL) that come from our wet gas plays. That stuff isn't "oil" and it is exported because it's wildly overproduced compared to our needs.
Yes, the US is a net exporter of "petroleum," but it's also a net IMPORTER of crude oil. In other words, the US has none to sell.
There's more complexity to why we export 3M b/d of crude (it's the wrong kind for our refineries) and also import 6.4 M b/d of crude (which is the right kind).
