Why did Israel grant Palestinians it conquered in 1948 citizenship (if under belligerent military rule) but not Palestinians conquered in 1967? In 1948, Israel only had to grant ~150,000 Palestinians citizenship relative to the 600,000 Jews (a number that rapidly increased beginning in May 1948... that had already exceeded a million by 1949). In 1967, Israel would have had to grant over 1 million Palestinians citizenship relative to the 2.3M Israeli Jews at the time (a number that was no longer rapidly increasing). There were simply too many Palestinians by 1967 to grant them citizenship. Ever since, Israel has been kicking the can down the road.... in the process it has imposed an apartheid regime on them and is now genociding them, in both Gaza and the West Bank.
For more than 75% of Israel's history, it has ruled over millions of Palestinians it denies the right the vote. The equivalent would be, imagine if, since 1838, about about ~1/3rd of the population living under United States rule had been denied the right to vote because they are native Americans rather than white settlers. Israel is a democracy the same way the US would be a democracy if we stripped the right to vote from 110 million Americans because they had the wrong DNA.

Israeli election day and the same incitement about Arabs voting that comes out every single time. Netanyahu is now saying that left-wing Jewish Israelis ars escorting Arab women to voting booths... the absolute horror that Jews would protect Arabs... or that Arabs would cast their votes at all... that Arabs are the big threat as per usual. The anti-Palestinian racism is something nobody every really discusses or attempts to confront.

As record numbers of Israelis vote in today's election, we shouldn't forget that not everyone under Israeli rule gets to vote -- the roughly 3 million Palestinians living in the occupied West Bank, whose lives and futures will be profoundly shaped by the outcome of today's election. And the election result could also have important consequences for the 2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, still trapped under Hamas's brutal rule.

3⃣When confronted with a nurse who was terrified by the massive drop in applications from EU27 nurses caused by Brexit and the massive rise in nursing vacancies due to that, Nigel responded: "Brexit was never going to solve ANY of our domestic problems".

What a line: "Most Israeli Jews now see the world the way Netanyahu has long seen it. That is Netanyahu’s great victory. But it is matched by his great loss: Much of the world now sees Israel the way Gazans see it." nytimes.com/2026/10/25/opini…

Kylian Mbappé You have no need to apologise. Vous avez raison! Et Grok est d’accord. 😊
Replying to @TomPMarshall
Yes, Mao Zedong was a dictator. He held absolute power over China from 1949 until his death in 1976, with no free elections, a one-party system, cult of personality, and suppression of dissent. Policies like the Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution caused tens of millions of deaths through famine and violence. No one should have to apologise for stating that historical fact.

If you are Palestinian Israeli (Sami Abou Shahadeh) & say Oct. 7th was a "significant historical event" you are disqualified from the election b/c you called for violence. If you are Jewish Israeli (Amichai Eliyahu) & say “anyone waving a Palestinian ... flag shouldn’t continue living on the face of the earth," you are NOT disqualified, b/c you apparently did NOT call for violence. Not so complicated after all. It's called Apartheid Israel.
This is Sami Abou Shahadeh. He is the leader of the Balad party, a Palestinian political party in Israel. Sami was disqualified because of this article he published on Oct. 8, 2023. alaraby.co.uk/opinion/%D8%B7… Israeli Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara backed Abou Shahadeh's disqualification, saying it "expressed support for armed struggle." Go read the article. it does not express support for armed struggle. not even close. Meanwhile, Amichai Eliyahu was not disqualified even though he said “anyone waving a Palestinian ... flag shouldn’t continue living on the face of the earth.” (aa.com.tr/en/middle-east/isr…). He's #4 on his party's list. ynetnews.com/article/86upvbr… To repeat: If you say, like the Palestinian Sami Abou Shahadeh said, that Oct. 7th was a "significant historical event in military, political, and strategic terms," than you are disqualified because you are calling for violence. If you say, like the Jewish Amichai Eliyahu said, that “anyone waving a Palestinian ... flag shouldn’t continue living on the face of the earth," than you are not disqualified, because you are apparently not calling for violence. Different rules for different people. Not so complicated afterall, it's called apartheid.

This is political support for ethnic cleansing.
A voter was interviewed on Israeli news, along with two first-time voters, about what led them to choose who to vote for. One of them said that his main issue was that "I don't want there to be Arabs here in the country." The reporter nodded enthusiastically. Say hello to the next generation of Israeli voter.

Let me show you what it's like to live in an autocracy. This morning, the heating went off in New Belgrade due to a technical malfunction. My mom, an educated woman and a medical doctor who has traveled the world, immediately assumed it was revenge by remnants of the regime because we voted against them. Autocracies change your psyche. The state becomes an actor that persecutes you, takes from you and watches you. This fear and distrust make it harder for people to connect and organize collectively against the regime. Russia is Serbia multiplied a hundredfold.

The Brexit supporters lied and lied and lied. There were no benefits to Brexit, except for the super rich tax avoiders. It’s time to rejoin the European Union urgently.

Acclaimed US journalist Dorothy Thompson said much the same in 1937…
In 1935 Sinclair Lewis wrote the dystopian novel It Can't Happen Here, which describes how a demagogue could win the U.S. presidency and establish a fascist dictatorship by appealing to traditional American values: "... the worst Fascists were they who disowned the word 'Fascism' and preached enslavement to Capitalism under the style of Constitutional and Traditional Native American Liberty."

Imagine you are renting a flat to a tenant. But the tenant does not pay you any rent for the first month. They also tell you they do not intend to pay you any rent next month either. How long would it take before you legally evict them?
12%Less than 1 month
12%1 to 2 more months
0%2 to 5 more months
75%5 or more months

News to 25% of those answering the poll, if they're planning to rent out a flat. A tenant never pays a penny in rent? It takes at least 5 months to remove them. The risk could be mitigated by requiring 6 months' rent as a deposit. Beware unintended effects of legislation!

Apparently, they were Maga influencers supporting Serbia’s populist nationalist. The MAGA Friends of Putin, I guess
Valentina Gomez, Joey Mannarino, and Weronika Rogowska were among those who visited Serbia, attended SNS events, and posted support for Vučić ahead of the vote, framing it around Christian values and opposition to the student list.

One in the eye, four aspiring populist leaders? Farage & Le Pen take note?
Within a single year the illiberal axis in southeast Europe of Orban and Vucic in Hungary 🇭🇺 and Serbia 🇷🇸 has collapsed under the crushing weight of the people who demanded democratic change, an end to corruption, and open, honest government.

250 families were evacuated in Hebron. The army is destroying their houses. Why? Because 2 Hamas members probably sponsored by people abroad who attacked soldiers came from this neighborhood. What is the children’s fault? What is the women’s fault? What is the innocents’ fault? God please show mercy upon the innocents. 🙏🙏🙏
