I’ve been driving to D.C. for six hours, but one comment keeps replaying in my head: “America is not a good ally.” Honestly, I do not understand this statement. Eighty years of unprecedented global peace, prosperity, and security—how is that not the definition of a good ally? I honestly don’t understand. But what I understand even less is the typical response: “80 years of American diplomacy down the drain.” What diplomacy has been “lost”? What has actually changed? American troops are still embedded with allied forces around the world. We are honoring every agreement. Right now, massive amounts of U.S. logistics, cyber, and ISR support are actively sustaining Ukraine. The only thing that has changed is the conversation. We now have a president unwilling to lie for your comfort. If hard truths are all it takes for Europe to question America’s loyalty, then Europe has much bigger problems ahead. And isn’t that the real issue? Isn’t this exactly what J.D. Vance said in Munich? The greatest threat isn’t war—it’s free speech. European leaders and media aren’t waging war on the United States. They are waging war on America’s ability to speak the truth. Calling the U.S. a “bad ally” is no different than the tired smears that everyone on the right is a racist. It’s just another way to silence uncomfortable facts. Europe, YOU have a decision to make. And it has nothing to do with Trump. This isn’t about Trump. It isn’t about Zelensky. It isn’t even about Putin. This is about Europe and the American left’s rejection of truth itself.
