Folks @TraversingTrad caught my fight against this with their review of my novel. So many garbage stories today never resonate because they're tales centered on "me, me, and me," whereas what truly strikes hardest is man's desire to set himself aside and find eternal truths.

This is a great example of the work Muslims can do in the US that actually has a real, tangible effect. Working within the legal system to protect religious rights like this isn’t possible in most other countries, Muslim or non-Muslim.

A positive development in the right direction. These local physicians collaborated w/ @shaykhamin & Darul Qasim scholars to sue the state of Illinois on the basis of their religious convictions. A great example of putting Muslim principles into practice at the level of the law.

I have not read Faruque's critique, but what this article outlines shows a lack of self-awareness in attributing the same things (unjustifiably so) to Iqbal what he himself does with Iqbal's writings.
To completely situate someone in their times is also interpretive colonialism.
[NEW] Predicament: Iqbal or Iqbal’s?
Adnan Mahmud examines Muhammad U. Faruque’s critique of Iqbal’s interpretations of the premodern Islamic intellectual tradition. Mahmud acknowledges that Iqbal may have misread key Sufi concepts and thinkers, but argues that these errors must be understood within the colonial context that shaped Iqbal’s philosophical project. Mahmud presents him as a thinker responding to the crisis of Muslim selfhood under modernity. He ultimately suggests that Iqbal’s questions remain as important as the flaws in his answers.

[NEW] Villager or Consumer? The Marketplace of Community
Abid Haseeb (@NasheedWallace) writes a reflection on consumer culture seeping into community life, turning friendships, invitations, and spiritual gatherings into value propositions to be optimized. The piece calls for Muslims to leave the “marketplace of community” and reclaim village life through commitment, service, forgiveness, and sincere presence.

[NEW] Thoufeeq Aslam interrogates the supposed binaries of private/public religion, Sunni/Shi’a rivalry, and quietist/legalist Sufism, through Sheikh Zainuddin Makhdum II’s ‘Tuhfatul Mujāhidīn’ in the context of Malabar Muslims fighting the Portuguese colonization of South India.

[NEW] The Bitcoiners Confronting Islam’s Money Problem: Is there an Exit From Riba?
Hudhaifah Zahid, founder of Grynvault and Econommi, joins Hibatuallah Bensaid for a correspondence interview on Islamic economic ethics, debt-based money, and the promise and limits of Bitcoin as censorship-resistant infrastructure. Against a backdrop of fragmented fatwas and persisting debates, Zahid argues that the deeper question is not over Bitcoin's novelty, but whether modern fiat regimes have become so structurally saturated with riba that Muslims have lost the ability to imagine monetary sovereignty altogether.
