Historian Sarah Paine: When Xi Jinping took power in China in 2012, he asked his experts why the Soviet Union fell. They told him it was organized by ethnicity. I suspect that explains his genocide of the Uyghurs, with the men in camps and the children in schools. 1/

If confirmed, this is telling: Russian data centres get hit, and online activity around AfD suddenly plummets. 📉 So much talk about German patriotism… then the connection from Russia goes down. 🤔🇷🇺

They were complaining about businesses having card surcharges for years. Now they’re mad about them being removed. I don’t know how people just spend their life being mad every single day. Isn’t it exhausting?

Just making sure I have today’s plot straight… An Emirati captain and an Omani co-pilot are flying a flydubai plane from Dubai to Tel Aviv packed with Israelis. The Omani co-pilot allegedly stabs the captain and tries to take control of the aircraft. The plane plunges roughly 14,000 feet in under 30 seconds, squawks 7700 and then 7500, and Israeli fighter jets are scrambled because everyone thinks there’s a hijacking underway. Cabin crew somehow get into the cockpit, passengers reportedly help restrain the alleged attacker, and the crippled aircraft ends up safely landing in Saudi Arabia without a rudder. So now a plane full of Israelis who were supposed to be in Tel Aviv are sitting in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, mingling with locals and talking about God knows what while Saudi authorities investigate an alleged Omani hijacker and both pilots are in the hospital. Meanwhile Israeli media have spent the morning cycling through approximately 17 different versions of what happened, including briefly telling everyone the pilots were Russian and Ukrainian. Did I miss anything?

BBC does not appear to have a single reporter or editor capable of putting the @ManCity guilty verdict into its proper context: it's a £900 million fraud that means the elite division of the national sport was rigged for nearly two decades and must inevitably have involved ..1/2

2/2 serious criminal conduct. It is a landmark moment for British society, something that goes way beyond sport. Why was football so unregulated and greedy that despotic regimes and oligarchs could easily control of clubs that mean so much to the communities they are rooted in?

Video shows Kimberly Guilfoyle, US ambassador to Greece and former fiancee of Trump Jr. meeting privately with the leaders of Romania's Social Democratic Party on March 31st, in a Bucharest hotel. Just 6 Days later, the Social Democrats allied with the pro-Russian extremists from AUR and filled the motion that collapsed the Romanian government led by PM Bolojan, which strongly opposed purchasing US gas at above market prices. In a WSJ article yesterday, sources present at a meeting between a Greek minister and Guilfoyle stated she bragged about having collapsed the RO government for its refusal to buy US gas, warning the US can do the same in Greece.
US Ambassador to Greece and former fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., Kimberly Guilfoyle, admitted in an interview for a Greek publication that the US was behind the collapse of the Romanian government because of its refusal to purchase US gas at above-market prices.

No, it is not "owned by One Nation". Small Batch Brewing Pty Ltd is a private company owned by Pauline Hanson, James Ashby and Alex Jones. It was registered in March 2025. It has no legal connection any political party. Equal shares are held by Pauline Hanson, James Ashby, and former party treasurer Alex Jones according to ASIC records. The company is privately owned and not directly owned by any political party or party trusts. It also has no current liquor licence and no revenue stream. Any profits it may make will go into the pockets of the three owners - Hanson, Ashby and Jones. Are you so blind to this game you can not see this is private enrichment - for them? James "offered" to get a $56K shed - a shed he didn't have to pay for - built on his own land. Yes, a free shed built on his land out of other people's money for a company he owns (not One Nation). He's now using that free shed for his own personal home - rent free - while he renovates his house, which also coincidentally happened to occur around the same time the shed was built, which is also coincidentally built on the same land as his house. Meanwhile Small Batch Brewing Pty Ltd - the one owned by only 3 people - is registered to a mystery address in Stretton in the suburbs of Brisbane. Pauline Hanson used donor funds to holiday in Italy. She uses donor funds under-the-table for everything. She's using donor funds to line their pockets with this little side hustle too. Hanson is a millionaire, so are her henchmen. Do you actually believe these people are acting honestly and in your best interests and not their own? .

Sanity in Murdoch publications is rare so should be shared 👇🏽 Opinion: Preposterous political ploy selfish Australians are falling for I was standing in a shop queue recently when a middle-aged bloke – clearly angry at life and wanting the world to know it – picked up a collection tin for women’s cancer research. “Why is it always about women?” he groaned. “Why don’t they have anything for men?” And that tells you everything you need to know about Australia’s mad rush to the loony right of politics. First, it shows a wilful ignorance of reality. Cancer research affecting males (exclusively or primarily) actually receives more funding than that affecting females. Second, it suggests a lack of both logic and empathy. Too many people cannot see – sometimes literally – beyond their own noses. Even a child knows proof of non-existence is not found in an object’s absence. Indeed, a lack of empathy is often a function of a poor education. Either way, too many Australians lack the basic empathy to see another point of view. Are striking workers greedy, or might they have a legitimate complaint about pay and conditions? The Swiss theorist Jean Piaget – pounded into every teaching student – found that well-rounded humans should be empathetic by age five. But I guess Piaget didn’t spend a lot of time in Australia, where debate rails between kicking out foreign students (despite their $55bn annual boost to the local economy) and dumping protections for LGBTQIA+ people whose rights in no way subtract from yours. Think about it. Does a beer manufacturer supporting trans people’s rights make your day harder? And would your daily life really be worse if a First Nations Voice to Parliament offered advice, on Indigenous matters only, that politicians could so easily reject? What is it about our inability to see ourselves in the shoes of another person – someone even more vulnerable than us who, in all likelihood, is also the battling the cost of living? As hard as life is for you, there are countless for whom it’s much harder. Every day there are Australians – law-abiding taxpayers who love their kids and their pets and who keep their head down – who are forced to battle racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia and cruel stereotypes around disability, autism and mental illness. And it’s through this preposterous hatred of others that populist politicians hoodwink angry Australians – just for votes and the election-funding dollars that come with them. And we’re falling for it. So you’re not alone if you’ve noticed people just don’t care any more. Studies have found human empathy across Western civilisation has almost halved in recent decades, fuelled initially by the individualistic, dog-eat-dog free market of the 1980s, and accelerated by social media networks that position us literally at the centre of our own digital world. Who cares about the international student – paying dearly to study at an Australian university in order to build a better life back home – as long as we can post pictures of our holiday. Be honest, when was the last time you dropped cash into a charity tin or tips jar? I’ve been thinking about blinkered views since the recent student protests against One Nation. Public comment was appalling in its opposition not just to what young people were saying, but in students’ right to say it. We have the right to respectfully express counter-opinions indicating where protesters are wrong on logic, but we can’t demand others be stripped of a right to lawful protest. I guarantee public opinion would be very different if young One Nation members marched in support of Australia Day or the flag. While there are legitimate questions around school students being off-campus during school hours, Article 15 of the UN’s Convention on the Rights of the Child protect the right of under-18s to protest lawfully. And shouting slogans is lawful when not inciting violence. To deny this is to deny a long history of young people changing the world for the better. I’m old enough to remember grey-haired politicians warning that university students were dangerous communists for opposing a Vietnam War they said was vital to Australia’s security. Look how that turned out. Young people have led anti-apartheid demonstrations in South Africa despite the risk of injury and death and, more recently, have been at the forefront of climate change and same-sex-marriage movements. In short, young people – so easily painted as know-nothing bludgers with no life experience – have always been on the right side of history. So take off your blinkers and pop on your empathy specs, and see what side of history you want to be on. - Paul Williams is an associate professor at Griffith University
