UCP pressure on health officials opened the door for alleged crime, not care. Albertans deserve better. #Alberta #abpoli #AHS

Update re: Acute Care Alberta purge today - A lot of people in one portfolio gone. No clarity on who is covering or who is next to get axed. One official was fired after delivering a report card on hospitals. IMHO the acute capacity data likely did not support last weekend’s announcements re: flu season preparedness… strap in #Alberta this fall may be a rough ride. alberta.ca/release.cfm?xID=9… @TheBreakdownAB @cspotweet

Not only is that not a record high, it's about 1/7th of what we had per capita in the 80's
Health system ready for respiratory virus season. Alberta has expanded hospital capacity to a record high of more than 9,000 acute care spaces and introduced a new triage program to prepare for increased demand: alberta.ca/release.cfm?xID=9…

We desperately need beds in AB. We don't need our premier trying to fool us that we have them. If we could even get back to the bed number we had in 2000 it would be a massive improvement. GoA: set a goal and then get it done!
Hey Alberta: is this incompetence or a full on intentional lie? 9003 Acute Care Spaces is NOWHERE near a record number for our prov In the late 1980s we had 17,790 acute care spaces in hospitals (~12,000 acute care beds, +LTC beds) 1988: 7.4 beds/1000 2026: 1.5 beds/1000 1/2

Total wipeout at Acute Care Alberta. 8 senior leaders turfed. Unsure what the @UCPCaucus plan B is at this juncture… it’s not strategic to drop this much institutional knowledge all at once. #ableg #abpoli #Alberta @TheBreakdownAB @PfParks @RealTalkRJ @albertaNDP

🚨 BREAKING: Ontario Premier Doug Ford just canceled Elon Musk’s Starlink contract and banned all U.S. companies from government contracts in response to Trump’s economic war with Canada. “It’s done, it’s gone,” Ford said. “We won’t award contracts to people who enable and encourage economic attacks on our province and our country.” And just to be clear: “They only have President Trump to blame.” So Trump starts a trade war, and now American businesses are getting locked out of Canada. This isn’t “tough negotiating”—this is our closest ally shutting the door on us while Trump pretends he’s “winning.” MAGA wanted an economic war? Well, they just got one. And it’s American companies and workers who are about to feel the pain. FOLLOW:@johnfkjuniorq

The video is from Doug Ford's March 2025 press conference announcing the Starlink contract cancellation and US procurement ban amid 2025 tariff disputes, not a recent event; reports confirm it as a past decision. pcmag.com/news/ontario-r… cbc.ca/news/canada/to… youtube.com/watch?v=FcRMux… iphoneincanada.ca/2026/10/21/hoe… globalnews.ca/news/12071759/…

This is going to be a tough flu season with only 1.5 beds/1000 Albertans. The amount of money wasted on restructuring could have gotten shovels in the ground on a meaningful number of acute beds. This is far too little, far too late. We’ll see how well these ideas from 5 years ago work to revive a failing system - IMO it’s too little too late.

Superb reporting on this. Kudos to Warren Thirsk for telling it like it is. "There is no more low hanging fruit." We need to double medical/nursing enrolment yesterday. We need new hospitals. No more obfuscation. Edmonton Journal edmontonjournal.com/news/loc… via @edmontonjournal

Reminder to political leaders in Alberta, Albertans were always more concerned about these issues than independence. New polling from @abacusdataca out of Wednesday will signal a clear call to get back to work

Nurse retention is poor nationally but Alberta is worse. @UCPCaucus policies have caused disruptive change without addressing: - frontline staffing shortages - activity/population model-based increases to acute and continuing care funded beds We need to immediately: 1.) train more nurses 2.) build more beds #abpoli #ableg #yeg #yyc @PfParks @TheBreakdownAB @albertaNDP @progressivetory @UnitedNurses @AlbertaRNs @shoffmanAB

Correct. It’s a lack of good governance by the UCP. Poor planning for well documented and projected population growth. How long have we known about the aging population bubble (boomers). More workers = more folks with kids who need schools. More people over 60yrs means more chronic disease = more primary, acute & community care. Didn’t some conservative say it’s simple math?
It has done none of those things. This is detestable scapegoating.

Hope Elections Alberta is using this data aggregator website to ensure TPAs are following the rules. #abpoli #ableg
Have my Albertan friends seen this page made for TPAs? Here is a corporate entity that doesn’t exist anymore donating to separatists. But wait it’s get way more insane 👇🏻 ! Mini 🧵 🐇 🕳️
