**MASHAZI FINDING DEMANDS CONSEQUENCES—NO PROTECTION FOR IMPROPER CONDUCT**
The Truth and Solidarity Movement condemns the improper conduct identified by the Public Protector concerning former Ekurhuleni City Manager Dr Imogen Mashazi’s appointment of an official who lacked the required qualifications for a senior Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department position. ([timeslive.co.za][1])
Senior municipal appointments carry responsibility for public safety, public money and public trust. Bypassing qualification requirements undermines professional standards and shuts out qualified applicants who deserve a fair opportunity.
Ekurhuleni residents deserve competent leadership and transparent recruitment. They should not have to carry the consequences of improper decisions made by those entrusted with running their municipality.
**TRUTH demands:**
* Prompt implementation of the Public Protector’s remedial action, including the recommended judicial review of the appointment.
* An independent review of the recruitment process and the conduct of everyone responsible for approving and verifying the appointment.
* Investigation by the appropriate law-enforcement authorities into whether any criminal offences occurred, with arrest and prosecution where evidence and legal grounds support them.
* A public explanation from the municipality of the corrective steps taken and the safeguards introduced to prevent a repeat.
Leaving office must not become an escape route from accountability. Any consequences supported by the evidence and applicable law must be pursued without political interference.
The Public Protector’s finding concerns improper conduct; it is not a criminal conviction. TRUTH nevertheless insists that the finding receive a serious response and that any evidence of criminal wrongdoing be investigated thoroughly.
**“Public office is a responsibility, not a licence to bypass the rules. Investigate fully. Where criminal evidence supports arrest and prosecution, act without fear or favour. No one is above the law.”**

**THREATS AGAINST WOMEN DEMAND JUSTICE—WEALTH MUST NEVER BUY IMPUNITY**
The Truth and Solidarity Movement condemns the alleged threats against women involving businessman Lawrence Mudzinganyama at a Sandton restaurant.
Reports confirm that Mudzinganyama has been granted R15,000 bail and faces ten charges, including intimidation, fraud and crimen injuria. His case is scheduled to return to court on 15 October. These charges remain allegations pending the court’s determination.
Women must be able to enter restaurants, workplaces and public spaces without fearing threats of violence. Any suggestion that personal wealth places someone beyond the reach of justice is an insult to victims and to South Africa’s constitutional order.
**Bail is not an acquittal. An apology does not replace accountability.**
TRUTH demands:
* A thorough investigation and prosecution based on the evidence, without favour or political interference.
* Effective protection for the complainants and witnesses against intimidation.
* An urgent Home Affairs review of his immigration status and compliance with applicable requirements.
* Lawful deportation if the authorities establish grounds for it, coordinated with the criminal proceedings so that removal does not frustrate justice.
* Transparent investigation of his dealings with public institutions, with consequences wherever wrongdoing is established.
Our demand concerns this individual’s alleged conduct. Every person, regardless of nationality or financial status, must answer to the same law.
**“South Africa must never become a playground for anyone who believes money buys the right to threaten women. Investigate thoroughly, prosecute where the evidence supports it, and pursue deportation where lawful grounds exist. Protect the women. Protect the witnesses. No one is above the law.”**
