Elite hitters walk in the box with 1 or 2 thoughts. Most hitters bring 8.
Grip, stance, hands, Dad’s tip, coach’s tip, don’t pull off. All real stuff. It just doesn’t belong in the box.
Here’s how I split it up with my hitters:
In the cage: Pick 2 things. A target and a feel.
On deck and in the box: Know the count and the outs. Time up the pitcher so you’re ready to fire. Then get a pitch you can drive.
If one of the 6 sneaks back in: Step out, breathe, say your pitch to yourself again.

There is so much that goes into playing elite defense. But 99% think all you just go take ground balls or do some drills and you’re fine to compete with players at the highest level… the elite of the elite defenders are playing chess…. So put the checkers down and become a student of the game.

Made an error? You get 5 seconds.
5 seconds…
- to acknowledge it.
- to breathe.
- to let it go.
Then reset and get back to work.
You can’t change the last play, but you can control what you do with the next one.
Don’t let one mistake become two.
Reset. Refocus. Respond.

Question : What happened to hitters hitting the back of the net in the cage?
I’ve seen it more and more.. cage bombs (still don’t know what that is) , ground balls, pop flys, hooked line drives, pushed line drives, rollovers and I could keep on going on but nothing is better than you hitting a line drive off that back of the net 10 times in a row.. that’s a HITTER not a SWINGER!
Instead of worrying about how far you can hit the ball with cut / slice worry about how consistent you can hit the ball with backspin. 🪐

Average players goof around until it's their turn at practice.
Better players watch whoever goes before them.
Good players notice what the player did right or wrong.
Great players LEARN when the coach corrects someone else... so they don't waste a rep making the same mistake.

As a baseball scout, there are two concerning hitting characteristics with HS & College hitters that stand out more today than ever before.
1) No Plan At The Plate
Successful hitters don’t just hope to get a hit—they know what pitch they’re hunting, they exercise zone awareness, they know what part of the field they’re trying to use, they know how to work counts, and how they’re going to attack pitch to pitch. They have a plan, they don’t just “wing it.”
If you fail to plan—then plan to fail.
2) Lack Of Competing In The Box
Every pitch is a battle. Fighting off tough pitches. Refusing to get beat. Making the pitcher earn every out. Competing in the box isn’t about the “result”—a hitter can go 0-4, but have four quality at bats. Competing in the box is about your approach, focus, and effort every single pitch.
Yes, swing operation and talent matters, however a “plan” and a “competitive” mindset in the box separate good hitters from the rest.
Never forget . .
Success is never owned. It is only rented, and the rent is due everyday!

Eagleville has officially broken ground on new turf fields!
Baseball, football and softball will transition to synthetic turf thanks to a generous investment by SRM Concrete.
Construction is underway, with a targeted completion in early August.
