Jedi Thesis: pacifism, no attachments, no hate or love, humility.
Sith Antithesis: aggression, hate, attack and go on the offense, hubris.
Transcendent Synthesis: embrace love and protect your family, your tribe and your legacy, destroy evil without hesitation.
The prequels are filled with so much aura - anyone pretending otherwise has lost touch with their inner child and is actively repressing their higher calling.
The red letter media attack on the prequels and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.

Remember this scene was specifically used an example in the Red Letter Media review as an example of Lucas's incompetentence as a filmmaker compared to J.J. Abrams' 2009 Star Trek. Mike Stoklasa intercuts this Phantom Menace scene and another tonally similar one with a bunch of frantic Abrams Trek action scenes with people yelling at each other and the lens flaring and the camera teetering around everywhere, and he says the Abrams Trek scenes are better. People actually watched this and were like, "Yeah that's a good point, this is really insightful stuff."

There is really only one scene that is just Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan sitting down in the conference room discussing the trade dispute. It is about 20 seconds long, and it basically consists of the Jedi being served drinks by the protocol droid, Obi-Wan commenting on how long the Neimoidians are keeping them waiting, and Qui-Gon saying that he senses "an unusual amount of fear for something as trivial as this trade dispute."
Then we cut to Darth Sidious appearing for the first time to the Neimoidians, contemptuously upbraiding one of them for his cowardice (remember? he calls him "stunted slime"), and then ordering the Neimoidians to kill everyone immediately.
Then we cut to the Republic pilots panicking as a gun emplacement suddenly swivels toward them, right before the transport is blasted apart in a huge, fiery explosion--at which point we cut instantly to the Jedi in the conference room suddenly leaping up and dramatically activating their lightsabers.
This is essentially all there is of the boring trade dispute talk in conference rooms that supposedly had people falling asleep in their theater seats. There's like a single twenty-second scene. Obviously that scene is given a relatively calm and uneventful vibe (though with hints of something maybe being not quite right), because it is supposed to provide a contrast to the sudden carnage inflicted at the command of Darth Sidious, which causes the Jedi to instantly leap out of their seats and spring into action.
This is literally good pacing.
When you point out that the pacing here leads to an opening most similar RotJ they suggest oh but RotJ had so much more tension. The same folks suggest that prequels tension is lasting because lack of danger to certain characters. Ok then so who is in danger in that opening? Certainly not Vader. The imperial officer? "Is Vader going to choke this random nameless officer we just met for 10th time" is tension? The menace of the scene comes principally in the threat of the emperors arrival, and I would not say a verbal threat of a future event is exactly trying to go for maximum dramatic force. Which is not actually a problem, its meant to be slower build so that Jabba isn't overly eclipsed too quickly by the Empire. Much slower, in fact, than TPM.
The pacing of the scene here is meant to establish menace. You know, like in the title. We then go to the conference room and watch our intrepid heroes talk while we also watch a secret conspiracy plotting their death they are oblivious too. This is known as dramatic irony. But these guys do not know what that is. They do not know *anything.*

Naboo's Law:
On a long enough timeline the very dumbest thing George Lucas ever put in a Star Wars film will turn out to have been prophetic, genius, and a biting commentary on American Empire.

The Star Wars story accidentally contains the seeds of this transcendence btw. The galaxy is not saved when Luke conquers his hate and becomes a pacifist. The galaxy is saved when Vader turns his hate towards the Emperor and kills him out of love for his son.
Yes, Star Wars at its most mythopoetic would have transcended both the Jedi and the Sith. Luke would have gone through the Freudian integration of the id and superego by the ego, becoming the kind of man Nietzsche called a “Caesar with the soul of Christ.” This is what the final trilogy ought to have been. Unfortunately for us, no one (and especially not George Lucas) has any idea what that man would be like.

What everyone in the replies should realize is that in 50 years, the prequels will be what is discussed in art classes and circles, not the OT.
This is true RIGHT NOW. The prequels have 10X the cultural penetration in the internet age. It will only get more drastic with time filtering.
The complaints will be studied as well as an attempt to understand the minds of yore, like Twain taking down James Fenimore Cooper.
The cringy romance will be understood straight because the context of what "cringe" is will be forgotten, as will what the standards for convincing acting were in the early 2000s. More technical criticisms will mostly be viewed from a historical perspective - that some viewers of the time expected certain structures from films.
The OT will be viewed as an important transitional work, while the sequels will be mostly a footnote, good fodder for a student essay on corporate decline but not much artistic interest.
You may gnash your teeth as you remember for the billionth time how much you enjoyed ESB on VHS on your shag carpet living room on your CRT, eating sugary cereal while your divorced mom ignored you, but those feelings will be filtered out by time once you are gone.
The future will belong to Lucas's capstone work, the prequels, because the present belongs to them as well.

"Anakin have you considered moving to the Outer Rim and managing a Rancor Express? Property is cheap far from the core worlds and Rancor Express is always hiring. I started there and they only paid me 5 credits an hour and worked my way up."

God. i’ve been lucky enough to witness so many great moments in theaters but nothing beats this one. from the moment he enters, with that bass rattling the theater walls, to this brilliant monologue, the “blah blahs,” the chaos erupting and tension exploding. wow. God tier.

Twice in the last 5 or so years, I have gotten into conversations with coworkers who have learned that I am pretty right wing and a christian. They are usually surprised because I joke around and swear a lot, which maybe I should work on, but thats not the point here.
What happens is that we start talking about it, and in both cases, the coworkers were either atheist or vaguely agnostic. They start interrogating me from the classic George Carlin/reddit atheist stance. Its exhausting. But what I find is that when I turn it back to them and ask them what they believe in, they don't have an answer.
They do the meme. "Be a heckin good person" is essentially what they say. They've sincerely never thought about it. They don't really have a belief system beyond rational self-interest. They are floating through life like this. They don't feel the need to construct or deconstruct a belief system. They are content to carry out the programming they have absorbed without much question.
They always claim to be political centrists and make sure to point out that they want fiscal responsibility (they never have any idea what this would look like or take and constantly vote for people who don't hide their intentions to spend wildly).
On the religious side, I will start to ask them philosophical and theological questions, to which they seem to not even understand. They think its weird to even think about or discuss these things. They may have learned about Aristotle but only in a biographical sort of way. They've ever actually had discourse or been challenged about this stuff.
As eigenrobot says. They don't have any beliefs to interrogate. These people could be conditioned to consent to mass killings with 2 years or less of really good propaganda

From the Zoomer perspective the Jedi are evil
Anakin was born of a Virgin, conceived by the Force, the Jedi Council knew he was the Chosen One..
Yet still, they rejected him…
Why?
Because he was more powerful than them
Imagine they had loved him, trusted him, and recognized his Divine Destiny
Instead they:
-forbid him to reproduce
-allowed his mother to be sold into slavery and viscously murdered by “sand people”
-watched the Democratic Process of the Republic evolve into a powerless stalemate
-traded Ancient Prophecy in favor of a modern interpretation thereby mocking the very Tradition they claimed to protect
They got what they deserved.
Long live the Empire. Hail Lord Vader
And this is why the sequel trilogy is a profound evil.
Its creators are uncomfortable with the truth and sincerity of the prequels.
