Afterwards, he put Caillie’s body in a bag and took her to nearby woodland. Her remains were discovered at the bottom of a ditch, hidden beneath branches. His other Labrador, Jura, was seized and taken into Scottish SPCA care. On 28 October 2026, Tweedie was sentenced at Edinburgh Sheriff Court. He received a lifetime ban on keeping animals, a 12-month Restriction of Liberty Order and an 18-month supervision order. No prison sentence was imposed. The Scottish SPCA inspector described it as the most upsetting case he had encountered in three years, calling it “the most eye-wateringly violent conduct towards a completely innocent pet”. Caillie endured repeated blows, a fatal stab wound and a prolonged death. Her body was then hidden in a ditch. Yet her killer walked away without a prison sentence.
