Watching a hard drive do its thing was one of the most zen-like, hypnotic, and soothing things you could do in the 90s.
Oddly satisfying and deeply relaxing.
You know, October 21st, 2015 has come and gone. So I think #BackToTheFutureDay should be on October 26th where everything kicked off. The date Marty McFly first went through time trying to escape the Libyans. This is the critical point in the whole franchise.

An old ape named Shift finds a dead lion's skin floating in a pool. He sits down with a needle and thick thread, and every time a bird flies over, he stops sewing and waits for it to pass. He knows exactly what he's making, and he doesn't want anyone in the sky to see it.
C.S. Lewis wrote that scene in 1956, in the last Narnia book. It's the one most of us never got to as kids. I only read it a few years ago.
When his friend Puzzle the donkey comes back from market, Shift ties the skin onto him and tells him to stand in the shadows. Then he tells the whole of Narnia that Aslan has come back.
Lewis tells you how it works. No one who had ever seen a real lion would have been taken in for a moment. It only works from far away, at night, by firelight, with the donkey kept quiet while the ape does all the talking.
Puzzle gets scared and says what if the real Aslan comes. Shift laughs and says Aslan never turns up nowadays. Right then there's a crack of thunder and the ground shakes under them. Puzzle says it's a warning. Shift says yes, it's a sign, and it means Aslan approves.
Now Gerwig's Aslan has Bowie's face and Meryl Streep's voice. The lion who sang a whole world into being in The Magician's Nephew, the voice so deep it shook the ground, talks like someone else now.
Shift did the same thing. He kept the lion's face and changed who was talking.
Lewis is gentle with the donkey, and I want to be too. Puzzle isn't evil. He's tired and trusting, and someone he believed kept telling him he wasn't clever enough to judge for himself. Lewis saves his anger for the ape with the needle.
A dad told me he was reading that first chapter to his kids and had to put the book down, because it read like these Hollywood headlines.
Pick up the real books. Read all seven out loud, every night, until your kids know that voice. A child who has heard the real lion can't be sold a donkey in a skin.
C.S. Lewis’ family has issued an official statement supporting Greta Gerwig’s Narnia and praising her lifelong passion for the books. bit.ly/4Buu39d

Some songs don't just take you back to the 1980s. They take you back to being a kid, when your imagination had no limits and anything seemed possible.
Tell me this doesn't give you chills.

40 years ago today, after a nightmare 1985 season, SNL fired 75% of its cast and filled it w/groundlings kids and stand ups.
The opening night was a Dana Carney tour de force.

If you understand the code, tested it, and can adjust it to pass our checks, you can submit them to Redot, even if AI was used to make it. Good and functional code is ok with us, regardless of who made it or what tools were used.
We've turned down some AI generated PRs in the past because the contributor didn't know what their code did, couldn't articulate how it worked, and were unable or unwilling to make our requested changes to get it up to our standards.
AI is a very useful tool for software development, but we expect contributors to take ownership of their submissions and coordinate with our team to get their code to where it needs to be for us to merge it.
We understand the decision to ban AI code from FOSS projects since it opens the floodgates for low quality and untested code, but our goal is to make Redot Engine as good as it can be to provide devs with the functionality and features that are needed to create their games. If your AI assisted code aligns with our goals and meets our standards, we have no problem merging it into Redot.
I have 19 patches to Godot engine that improve performance and stability, fix many bugs, add much better support for HOTAS, and add optional instrumentation and better profiling support.
They’re pretty good. I spend time on this stuff and don’t want slop in my code base.
But they don’t want them, because I used AI.
That’s okay. I’m glad Godot is open source!
But it does make me wonder how many of these types of quality engine patches are living out in the wild and not able to be submitted due to this policy.
And yes, I could rewrite them by hand and submit them. But the friction is just high enough that I don’t really want to. So they will have to discover and fix this issues themselves.

Forget Transformers.
Michael Bay needs to make a sequel to The Rock where Nicolas Cage & Pierce Brosnan have to break into a prison in order to save the world from a terrorist threat.
The twist: Cage has been incarcerated since 1996 & Brosnan is Connery's former protégé.
Michael Bay is reportedly set to direct the next ‘TRANSFORMERS’ film.
