Using Upside, I anonymized and aggregated the data behind 29,367 new-business deals across multiple b2b enterprise companies to try to understand: just how messy GTM data really is?

I spent 4,000+ agent hours doing 1,763 analysis of 521 B2B new business deals across 13 companies to understand what works, what really drove pipeline and how much of those touchpoints were actually buried in unstructured data.

Yes 100% - we found 1/2 of what mattered in opening a deal was buried inside unstructured data - at @UpsideGTM we do pre extraction to make that data AI ready, but also now can give companies much better b2b attribution 😊

Everyone is talking about connecting your CRM systems to Claude and asking questions - but the biggest blocker I hear (this was a big topic at Drew Neisser CMO Huddles last week)- GTM data is NOT ready for AI. I ran an analysis comparing @UpsideGTM healed data agains what's in the CRM and on buying groups alone the results are telling: - Only 1 in 3 people of the buying group on won deals are added on opportunity - 21% don't even exist in the CRM Without healing your data, asking AI for insights just can't fully be trusted.

My whole CMO career I felt marketing was shortchanged when it came to attribution and now I finally have the data to prove it 😆 🙃 My findings: - On every model, enhancing the data gave marketing more credit. Last touch went from 15% to 25%. First touch from 38% to 45%. Linear multi-touch from 20% to 37%. - CRM/marketing automation touchpoint only see 51% of what creates a deal. The other 49% lives in unstructured data - Brand and advocacy start 28% of deals. The opportunity source field credits them with 5.6%. - Unresponded cold outbound one-way emails fill 45% of logged touches but earn 3.7% of the credit. - AEs only add 2.7 people to buying group, the real group is 7.9 The whole report: upside.tech/research/the-unt…

There is nothing cuter than @camillericketts, @swyx and Alma reading my book about Dragon, Mina and attribution. I smiled and laughed every time I watched this and now I want a recipe for these pepper buns and a stuffed dragon for @UpsideGTM 🙃

Wrote a little something about account based marketing with my friends at @UpsideGTM today - I’ve seen so many new tools/tactics for measuring and managing ABM better with AI, wanted to share the gold standard I’ve seen emerging…. substack.com/@camillejricket…

GTM codenames night by @UpsideGTM with custom cards Only-in-SF moments included: - clue: ‘YC’ and the answer being ‘demo’ - clue: ‘cooking’ and everyone thought it meant ‘hustling’ or agentic ‘layer’ when the answer was ‘heat’ Just the right amount of competition and camaraderie 🫶🏼

During @hf0 one of the best exercises @davefontenot and @evans was to tell our company story as a children's book. Last week I actually made a book - we're printing it. Being a marketer is HARD - your work often gets unnoticed and does not always get the credit it deserves. 😳

"every GTM engineer is basically hiring a brand new intern every time they open an agent. it's smart, but never onboarded. the fix is persistent memory and context." @UpsideGTM is building the data layer for GTM engineers, helping operators build the context their agents need to actually do the work instead of starting from scratch every time. i loved this conversation with @alexdbauer, co-founder of @UpsideGTM, at our @aiDotEngineer booth. we got into: 1:47 how the GTM engineer went from automating outbound to full-stack builder 2:37 the refinery that turns raw CRM data into fuel your agents can actually use 6:36 why every agent starts like a brand-new intern, and how persistent memory fixes it 9:37 the "librarian" pattern: one agent trained on your business that onboards the whole team 10:37 treating agents as persistent coworkers, not chatbots stuck in a box thanks for coming onto our pod, @alexdbauer!

By GTM engineers, for GTM engineers Thanks @mada299 and team for putting together this highly curated group. Everyone I met was either scaling outbound agents or running a sales team or ROImaxxing

I’m not a big fan of open invite events but today’s Show and Tell: AI for GTM hosted by @UpsideGTM was amazing!! It was no frills real demos from actual operators. I got at least three more internal product ideas to build in the next two weeks 🚀

AI is changing how we do GTM so fast that this is the first issue of something I've wanted to make for a while: The Upside-Down Funnel, a weekend letter about what we've been learning and experimenting with every week, at the edge of GTM. Less news, more of what we're pondering, building, and stealing from. Here we go. open.substack.com/pub/gtmaie…
