What are the most important things to keep in mind when doing Technical Analysis?
Here are 6 things I always pay attention to:
1) Start with the weekly chart: Understand the trend, stage, and overall structure first. Then use the daily for entries.
2) Price comes first: Price is the final result of everything the market knows. Indicators are secondary and mostly derived from price. Keep the chart simple and focus on what price is actually telling you.
3) Volume confirms the move: Look for volume expansion on breakouts and low volume on pullbacks.
4) Use Anchored VWAP: IPO VWAP, ATH VWAP and Earnings VWAP can show where important groups of buyers are positioned.
5) Relative strength matters: The strongest stocks tend to outperform the market before they become obvious.
6) Respect the major moving averages: The 30-week, 50-day and 200-day tell you a lot about the health of a trend.
Technical Analysis isn’t about predicting every move. It’s about identifying the trend and putting the probabilities in your favor.
