Recent scenes from our Nairobi Nursery. Which is your favourite? 1.Nothing gets between Poppi and her milk 2.Notty, right at home amid the orphan herd 3.Arthi, our little bull, can be such a show-off! Every animal seen here is an orphan, rescued and brought into our care so they can experience the love of a family. When they are grown and ready, they will return to a protected landscape where they can roam wild, just as they were born to do. Meet the herd and find out how you can adopt an orphaned animal in our care for yourself or as a gift for someone special: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/o…

So happy that I finally got some photos of one of my favorite North American animals. The fastest land animal in the Western Hemisphere, the pronghorn!

Imagine if senate races involved bitter fights over how to manage the intractable India-Pakistan conflict. Everyone would see that’s insane. And that’s a conflict between two countries that account for nearly a quarter of world population.

Martha Vickers, the sultry model who made us all sit up and take notice with her memorable turn in "The Big Sleep" never quite achieved the stardom her beauty and screen presence seemed to promise. She died on this date in 1971, far too young, at just 46, leaving us with a stunner performance and her glorious stills of glamour shots...

Absolutely impressive how grizzlies can traverse some of the gnarliest terrain. Got a glimpse of it out in Glacier and I'd love to photograph some when I return.

Why do the orphans each have their own "room" at night? First, the reassuring part: a room of one's own doesn't mean sleeping alone. The orphans bed down on soft hay, surrounded by the comforting rumbles of the others, with a Keeper right beside them throughout the night. Neighbours often rumble to one another through the walls before settling down for sleep. As for the separate rooms themselves, there's one main reason: they allow the Keepers to provide one-to-one care, feed each orphan during the night and closely monitor how much every individual is eating and how they're doing. Each orphan has its own cosy, secure space – close to the herd, but a space of its own. As they grow older and need a little less support at night, they graduate to communal stockades, where they can enjoy the company of one another while also encountering nocturnal wild visitors that wander through.
