This is incredibly not how our justice system works & i am actually astonished how much people are responding in agreement to a completely fictitious system. Let me educate.... ▪️ While politicians can propose legislation, they cannot unilaterally define terms like “hate speech” or “incitement to violence.” Definitions used in laws are the result of parliamentary debate and legal drafting, often informed by expert and public consultation. Additionally, politicians themselves are subject to the law and cannot arbitrarily apply it to suppress dissent or opposition. Free speech in the UK is protected under UK law - we have the Human Rights Act of 1998 to thank for that. However there are limitations on speech, meaning free speech although protected, its not absolute. The UK law places limits on speech to prevent harm, such as incitement to violence, hate speech, and defamation. These limitations are intended to balance the right to free expression with the protection of other individuals and groups from harm. Courts evaluate whether speech crosses the line into these prohibited categories, based on clear legal criteria and precedents. The UK legal framework is designed to learn from historical abuses of power, ensuring that no single individual or political group can dominate the interpretation or enforcement of laws. Laws related to speech are crafted and interpreted with an understanding of past misuse and the need for balanced protections. So the scenario that @the_pons is misleading people to believe is HIGHLY unlikely. Luckily due to the rigid and robust legal system in the UK its designed to protect against the misuse of power and safeguard individuals of all race and creed. So hope everyone agreeing to this shockingly bad take gets as much attention as @pon_eth misleading post....but it probably won't because X is what people want to believe rather than fact and that...is fact.
