I am legitimately surprised so many people are citing Paul Graham’s ā€œFounder Modeā€ so uncritically. Yes, we know founder-led companies are run better + differently. There are decades of evidence for that. But ā€˜founder mode’ is so vague that it’s untestable.

Most products are worse off for shipping too late vs shipping too early. Shipping late is usually a symptom of caring too much what people internally think. Shipping early keeps users at the center of decisions.

Slow down and remember this: Most things make no difference. Being busy is a form of laziness—lazy thinking and indiscriminate action. Being overwhelmed is often as unproductive as doing nothing, and is far more unpleasant. Being selective—doing less—is the path of the productive. Focus on the important few and ignore the rest.

You don’t have to build confidence before taking action. You build confidence by taking action. Standing still breeds rumination and seeds self-doubt. Motion fuels progress and elevates efficacy. Never let doubts about your ability undermine your faith in your ability to learn.

1. Yes it’s still operating 2. Before the 75% staff cut, this business generated ~$5B in revenue. After the cut it is likely to generate ~$2.5B 3. The savings from the firings are likely around $1-$1.5B Save $1.5 to lose $2.5 (at least the short term!) Copy at your own risk
It’s time to acknowledge that 75% of Twitter’s staff were laid off and this thing is still running
