Another of our #geothermal papers now out (led by Josh Weaver @VolcanoLiver). This time we investigated the thermal liability of hyaloclastite and how temperature fluctuations in phyllosilicate-bearing rocks impact fluid flow in #hydrothermal reservoirs.

In the Earth's crust many different processes compete against each other to change the physical properties of rocks. In this new collaboration with @VolcanoLiver we look at the role of hydrothermal alteration versus mechanical compaction. In this case, alteration probably wins!
Our new paper just out (led by @G_H_Eggertsson) on the compaction of hyaloclastite from the active #geothermal system at Krafla #volcano (Iceland) and the impact of mineral alteration on their physical/mechanical properties #porosity #permeability
