As you know, my explorations of the Gen AI space is ultimately all about creative control. You should be able to shape the generative matter using all your artistic sensibilities and your aesthetic sense.
OpenAI's Sora is a huge technological leap, but what excites me the most about it is the modalities where it depends on input other than text alone. Such as video to video. Here's an example of how Sora can change an input video.

We should all be very proud of the performance of this @BafanaBafana team.
This was a great tournament performance overall and they made South Africa believe again. They made young boys want to get soccer boots for their birthdays and play for Bafana Bafana.
For a team that was ranked 66th in the world, we came, we saw and we made a powerful statement about South African soccer. We are equal to the best and never ever count us out.
Hold your heads high. You went out on your shields. We will meet you at the airport with pride.

Don't create a Product Strategy Document until you read this!
After my last post on Product Vision, Strategy, Roadmap and goals, many people wanted to know what the perfect Product Strategy Doc should look like.
Here is my answer:
1. Keep it simple
2. There is no "perfect" strategy doc
3. Create what works for you AND the team
4. Iterate with time to keep it relevant
5. Avoid making it too long (read:boring)
I like to include only the following sections in my strategy documents
1๏ธโฃ Vision Statement
Always start with the vision statement, to remind people of your larger goal and the destination you're moving towards
Ex: JustAnotherPM (JAPM) wants to equip 500K product managers with the knowledge and tools to help them create world-class products used by billions of users.
2๏ธโฃ Focus areas
Based on the vision, try to think of 2-3 areas you want to focus on for the next 12-24-60 months (or any time frame you choose)
Every 6 months evaluate focus areas to check how much progress you've made and if they need to be revised.
Ex focus areas for JAPM
1. Create 100 detailed and actionable guides explaining fundamentals of product management [Time horizon: 12 months]
2. Transform JAPM into a platform that serves all needs for new and existing product managers (guides, courses, mentors, jobs, case studies, etc.) [36 months]
4. Generate $30K MRR [48 months]
3๏ธโฃ Target market / User personas / Target user
Define, in detail, the users and the markets you want to target for your product. This section ensures everyone in the company knows exactly who they are targeting.
Do NOT make this section vague or ambiguous.
Ex:
Vague user persona: "New product managers across the globe"
Specific user persona: "Product managers with 1-3 years of experience, who have graduated in the last 4 years, and are based in a developing economy"
4๏ธโฃ Competitive analysis
In this section, include details about competitors on the following aspects:
1. Market share
2. List of competitors and their vision, focus areas
3. Recent wins
4. Immediate threats and opportunities
5. Partnership opportunities
5๏ธโฃ Roadmap
If you've done all of the above well, this section becomes easy. Use this section to highlight the biggest initiatives and/or features that will help you achieve your focus areas.
First, identify the initiatives with "highest impact." Then, sequence them in the order which gets you to your goals quicker. Third, reevaluate regularly and iterate as needed.

1 year ago, I moved from the Uk to Mallorca, Spain with my wife and 4 children ๐ด
A few thoughts โ๏ธ
1) Sunshine makes an immense difference to your overall health.
2) A great day can be as simple as a beach, a cool box and a towel.
3) Children are happier when they're outside.
4) Time close to or in the sea is great for the soul.
5) You can't go against culture, only with it.
6) Eating well doesn't have to be complicated. Simple ingredients cooked well is the game.
7) Processed food is out of control in the Uk.
8) Baseline health standards are much higher in Spain.
9) Obesity is much less tolerated.
10) Big families are loved and encouraged.
11) Children are the center of the universe in Spain.
12) Teachers hug, kiss and comfort the children at school. It's a travesty this is not allowed in the Uk and other countries.
13) Learning languages at age 5 is play. 3/5 languages by early 10's is the target.
14) 4 children can attend the best private international school for the same cost as 1 child private in the Uk.
15) Teachers are vastly underpaid.
16) Great teachers are immeasurably beneficial for your children.
17) Everything takes 3x as long, in some cases 10x.
18) The slower pace of life is enforced.
19) Paper is still the default. Digital is lagging way behind.
20) People don't fuck with the police. The Guardia Civil will destroy you.
21) 99% of the police (especially Guardia) are in incredible shape.
22) Healthcare is fantastic.
23) Attempting to speak in Spanish (even when a clear beginner) is always well received.
24) Shift from Socialist to Conservative is starting. Taxes should come down.
25) Digital nomad visas are now available.
26) Although painful, there's huge opportunity for innovation.
27) Long lunches and late dinners are incredible.
28) Being out late with your children is normal.
29) The school run is the ultimate networking opportunity.
30) Splitting twins into separate classes is extremely beneficial for their development.
31) Having 4 children in 4 classes is the social life hack.
32) Nothing happens quickly, you have to accept it.
32) If you can live in the sun, you should.
33) You will make closer friends by moving somewhere with intention as other people have done the same. Likely you share similar values.
34) Taking your children to the beach after school is one of the greatest pleasures in life.
That's it for now :)
May add some more as I think of them!

Elon Musk fired 6,500 employees at Twitter.
A little birdie told me it's down to:
- 2 designers
- 6 iOS developers
- 20 web developers
- Around 1,400 sales and operations people
How is it possible that we are still using this website?
Two words:
Parkinson's Law.
Have you ever wondered why seemingly simple tech companies have tens of thousands of employees?
Sometimes, it's because they have huge sales forces or tech support/operations people.
But often it's also due to Parkinson's Law.
Parkinson's law is like lighter fluid for bureaucracy.
It's a business tapeworm that slowly eats away at companies, making them less and less efficient and innovative over time.
Parkinson's Law is the idea that the work will generally expand to the amount of time, budget, and number of people allocated to it, and no matter how many people you allocate to it, those people will feel busy.
They'll feel busy because, due to the excess time/slack in the system, they'll start focusing on less and less important tasks.
Here's how it manifests on an individual level:
Let's say you have a report due in a week.
The report might only take you around five hours to finish if you really focus and work efficiently. However, because you know you have a week to complete it, you might find yourself spending a lot more time on it than you need to.
You'll be more prone to distractions, take longer breaks, or perhaps decide to add more details, tables, graphs, and so forth.
Essentially, the task becomes more complex and time-consuming purely because you have more time in which to do it.
And here's how it manifests across organizations:
Imagine a big tech company. A social media company with various departments. Each department has tasks that it must complete to contribute to the overall productivity of the company.
Now, suppose each department is given a budget and a set amount of time to complete its tasks for the year.
According to Parkinson's Law, each department will use its entire budget and the entire allotted time, even if the tasks could have been completed more efficiently.
This is because as resources and time increase, departments tend to become more complex and less efficient.
For example, a department might add more steps to its procedures, requiring more approvals and creating more paperwork, which slows down the process.
Or it might use the full budget on additional personnel or equipment that doesn't necessarily improve productivity.
The department might also use the full budget to justify the same or larger budget for the next year, since budgets in many organizations are often determined based on the previous year's spending.
This is a phenomenon known as "budget padding" or "spend it or lose it" mentality.
Inefficiencies can also develop in staff allocation. If a department expands, it might add managerial positions that aren't strictly necessary.
More employees are hired to manage, creating layers of bureaucracy that may not contribute to productivity and can even slow decision-making.
I have seen this occur over and over again in my career. The larger the team, the larger the budget, the longer the timeline, the less gets accomplished.
I'm very curious to see how many more tech companies come to this realization.
So often, good times + revenue growth = Parkinson's Law.
