UGA twitter might be the biggest group of dickriders I’ve ever met in my life. Everything that happens in CFB is an extension of Kirby smart according to them.

Take notes if you run a business
I was leading Heinz Ketchup when Dip N Squeeze came out.
It was a massive upgrade from ketchup packets. Consumers LOVED it.
Problem was we couldn’t get any of the big fast-food players on board.
Dip N Squeeze was 3-5x (I forget the exact numbers) more expensive than packets, and they were free for customers.
The key question was “does having Dip N Squeeze drive more volume?”, thus justifying the incremental cost.
It was nearly impossible to prove. Every penny matters to these operators, so every sales meeting was the same. “We love it, but no.”
Chick Fil A was the only yes.
They didn’t need “proof”. They operated under the assumption simply giving their customers a better experience would pay off in the long run. Incremental cost be damned.
Their conviction was impressive.
They viewed every decision thru the lens of their customer. A much different approach from the other big players.
I assume they treated countless other decisions the same way.
This was ~15 years ago. CFA has been on quite the run since.
(separate but related, I believe being a private co is a massive competitive advantage for CFA)
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Dan Reese claims he "was leading Heinz Ketchup when Dip N Squeeze came out" ~2011, but has described himself as an MBA intern at Heinz then. Reports show Chick-fil-A and Dairy Queen used the packets early on, with others testing.

“The SEC played bully ball for decades, strong-arming the little guy and leveraging every possible detail in the sport to its own advantage.
Awesome. Now play the damn schedule that you created and shut up about it.”

“In situations like this” what the fuck are you talking about. Are you Wile E Coyote
Notre Dame’s schedule:
• #3 Miami
• #8 BYU
• #24 SMU
• Beat Purdue (who beat Minnesota by more than Mississippi State did, and competed with #21 Wake Forest)
• Beat North Carolina (who beat TCU in non-con play and earned a ranked win over #25 Pitt on the road last week)
• Beat Wisconsin (who’s 4-1, beat Penn State on the road, and is just a 2.5-point underdog to #12 UCLA tomorrow)
Not only is this not a bad schedule, it’s actually pretty decent.

On The Death of the Regular Season
On Dec. 3, 2023, the College Football Playoff selection committee left an undefeated Power Four conference champion out of a 4-team College Football Playoff. The regular season you're mourning hasn't existed for a while now. We've spent the last two years hearing arguments and debates about why certain 9-3 teams deserve a spot in a 12-team field over some 11-1 and 10-2 teams.
I'm not saying you shouldn't be against a 24-team field, or that it won't impact the sport in many different ways. But the idea that the regular season has been killed is just a Pavlovian response at this point.
You’re fucking retarded if you think the answer to a school shooting is having 7 year olds walking up to an armed security guard before class. Like genuinely man

This was the exact moment the sport died and when Kirk Herb decided he needed to hide behind dogs because how heavy of an influence he was in making it happen
From this moment forward it became 100% about money and it’s been full steam ahead from there

#biased #ESPN
Genuinely at what point can we just clearly say that a lot of these guys are just getting paid to keep certain teams high. Given how blatantly $ is currently ruining cfb I’m shocked that no one’s made the claim sooner. But they’re clearly being paid
