My sister Mahrang Baloch writes from prison for @HRF “My greatest concern has never been simply when I will walk out of this prison. It is when families across Balochistan will no longer have to search for their disappeared loved ones, when young people will be able to express their political beliefs without fear, and when the demand for justice will no longer be treated as a crime.” nitter.gq/HRF/status/21143564556… #ReleaseDrMahrangBaloch
Today, HRF shines a light on human rights defender Dr. Mahrang Baloch. She is serving two life sentences in Pakistan for her advocacy on behalf of the Baloch minority, who have faced enforced disappearances, torture, and killing. Writing from prison, Mahrang describes her work as both deeply personal and collective: “I do not consider my own suffering separate from the suffering of my people. My greatest concern has never been simply when I will walk out of this prison. It is when families across Balochistan will no longer have to search for their disappeared loved ones, when young people will be able to express their political beliefs without fear, and when the demand for justice will no longer be treated as a crime.” HRF demands that Pakistan release Mahrang Baloch and echoes her vision for a society where all people can live freely, without fear: “I remain convinced that fear cannot be the permanent foundation of any society. Prisons may confine individuals, but they cannot permanently contain the desire for freedom, dignity, and justice.” Learn more → ow.ly/J7mf5100HCR #DispatchesfromDetention #MahrangBaloch

On this #InternationalDayofPoliticalPrisoners, HRF remembers the estimated 1 million political prisoners around the world. This week, we have highlighted the cases of Dauletmurat Tazhimuratov, Mahrang Baloch, Victoire Ingabire, Umar Khalid, Ulviyya Ali, Vadim Kobzev, and Alexei Liptser, as they describe detention in their own words. As you read their words, remember that every political prisoner around the world is experiencing a similar plight. We must not become comfortable with this injustice. Today, and every day, we demand freedom for all political prisoners and accountability for those who target them. On March 2, 2026, FC personnel forcibly disappeared him from his house in Buleda. After 7 months and 18 days, his dead body was dumped in Sohlo Kour, Buleda. Yasir was a young student with dreams and a future still ahead of him. At just 19, he was deprived of his right to life, liberty, education, and the opportunity to fulfil his aspirations. Instead of pursuing his education and building his future, he was subjected to enforced disappearance, separated from his family and the life he deserved. After months of anguish and uncertainty, his family received his body instead of welcoming him home alive. Rather than being presented before a court of law and afforded due process, Yasir was extrajudicially killed, raising grave concerns over the violation of his fundamental rights. Enforced disappearance and extrajudicial killing are grave human rights violations. Every person has the right to life, liberty, security, and equal protection under the law. No family should endure months of uncertainty only to lose a loved one in such circumstances. Yasir’s family deserves truth and justice, and the circumstances of his disappearance and death must be independently and transparently investigated. The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) appeals to national and international human rights organisations to take urgent notice of the worsening human rights situation in Balochistan. The Baloch people have the right to live without fear, pursue their dreams, and enjoy legal protection. Their lives must be protected, their voices respected, and their future secured. Enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings must end, and those responsible must be held accountable in accordance with the law. #StopBalochGenocide

Nobel Peace Prize nominee @MahrangBaloch_, who fought enforced disappearances in Pakistan with @BalochYakjehtiC, was recently sentenced to life in prison. Her arrest wasn't an isolated incident. 🔗 Read the story by @HazaranRahim and @sommulbaloch here: thepolisproject.com/read/bal…

5000 families are only for him. Because he’s conquerer & colonizer. Even this panjabi mindset rule is worse then European colonial era. Displacing indigenous people from their own lands. Which belong to them centuries. @ImranRiazKhan @HamidMirPAK

#ReleaseDadShahBaloch

That is precisely why same state counsel has been appointed - since there is no justice or even due process for Imaan & Hadi. A sham trial in jail where accused are kept behind a cage! @CMShehbaz gets his daughter & son in law acquitted immediately in corruption cases despite being absconders, but his govt wreaks vengeance on my kids. Shameful! @AzamNazeerTarar
🚨🚨Who will state appointed defence counsel of Imaan and Hadi, what a mockery of justice system, a clearly complicit court proceeding with malafide against #Pakistan’s most devoted human rights defenders 🚨🚨 Advocate Janjua had previously been appointed to represent @ImaanZHazir and @AdvHadiali Hadi in a controversial social media posts case — a development to which the couple had objected. He had shown up in the #Islamabad district and sessions court during a November hearing instead of Advocate Shakeel Jatt, the state counsel who was initially appointed to represent the duo in the case. That was after Advocate Jatt had refused to cross-examine the prosecution’s witnesses in the case, saying that he could not “ask questions dictated” to him. At a December hearing, Hadi had informed the court that a no-confidence application had been filed against Advocate Janjua. dawn.com/news/2038776
