2020: Matt Hancock, "Right from the start we've tried to throw a protective ring around our care homes" 2026: Baroness Hallett, "The claim that a so called protective ring has be thrown around care homes right from the start was unfounded. Quite the opposite is true. The adult social care sector as a whole, appeared to be something of an after thought" My view: Matt Hancock said the government had tried to throw a “protective ring” around care homes. He repeated the claim in Parliament. Nadhim Zahawi later publicly backed it, while Boris Johnson defended the government’s handling when challenged. Now Baroness Hallett’s inquiry has rejected the claim as unfounded: care homes were not protected from the start; adult social care was treated as an afterthought. This was more than a failure of words. Patients were discharged from hospitals into care homes without routine testing, and care homes were not advised to isolate those arrivals. Staff faced shortages of PPE and testing, while residents and families bore the consequences. The inquiry describes a system that failed to plan for the risks and failed to put care homes at the centre of its response. What we saw was a collective failure—a collaboration of incompetence at the expense of life. The phrase “protective ring” offered reassurance while the protections people needed were missing. Thousands of families were left grieving, and care workers were left trying to cope with the consequences. Those responsible should face the findings honestly, explain how this happened and make sure the lessons lead to change. But the question remains, why is there almost no accountability for the actions government ministers took during covid?

BREAKING | Care homes 'afterthought' during pandemic as Covid 'spread like wildfire' killing thousands, inquiry finds. Do not resuscitate orders appeared on some patients' notes without them or their family being aware. The UK Covid-19 Inquiry has found that vulnerable care home residents were left with “insufficient protection” as patients were discharged from hospitals without knowing if they had the virus.

Like all @Conservatives he was too busy putting millions in his pockets and his Tory mates pockets.
Bereaved families have previously called the phrase a “sickening lie” and a “joke” Read the latest updates: independent.co.uk/news/healt…

Still thinking the @Conservatives did a good job during Covid? That Johnson handled it all well? If you did, even back in 2020, you’re an utter mug blinded by politics. The Tories killed people and you (Colchester Tories) turned a blind eye when everyone else knew.
BREAKING: Covid inquiry chair, Baroness Heather Hallett, says that action to protect care homes came too late causing it to "spread like wildfire". Live updates: trib.al/rq3oWgR 📺 Sky 501

The @Conservatives’ actions during Covid killed people unnecessarily. I remember at the time, back in 2020, their supporters (in Colchester) defended them. Today they must be proud to have supported their Party and Johnson. Morons.

Reform voters must be the most stupid individuals on earth for believing lies after lies after lies. Wake up morons! 😂
This video footage from Boulogne shows a UK Border Force vessel safely returning migrants to France. It’s proof positive that the plan we announced yesterday is viable.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This was a search & rescue operation under French control, not an operation to return migrants. It does not prove that Reform's plan for migrant return would work. abcnews.com/International/…

If it was a Muslim country, the moronic @Nigel_Farage supporters would be outraged. That how stupid they are.

5G is such a con. Ever had 5G with 2-3 bars in your phone without your phone connecting? I can’t be the only one. Mobile phone companies know something we don’t and we’re being taken for mugs. @vodafone @o2 @EE

And how much did the King, William & Co knew without taking any actions until it all became public? They’ve all been more worried about keeping their titles and privileges rather than help the victims. Bunch of criminals.

That racist, @elonmusk begging Epstein for an invite to a paedo party… @Tesla 👏🏼👏🏼
Piers Morgan is never getting that Elon Musk interview after this.

The @reformparty_uk seems to think everybody is as stupid and gullible as their party members 😂
A viral image which supposedly shows Nigel Farage visiting a child with terminal cancer in hospital isn’t real. It’s based on a real picture of a boy with cancer, which has then been edited with the help of AI to include the Reform UK leader. fullfact.org/politics/nigel-…

Good old @elonmusk and his “love” for children… I wonder what @Tesla make of it?

So @elonmusk was a good friend of Epstein? Ok maybe not Freud, he just begged him to invite him to one of his paedo parties. A racist who likes (very) young girls, who knew?! Not a good look for @Tesla.

With @RobertJenrick being incompetent and a racist, it’s no wonder he’s joining Reform. Utter power-hungry clown.

Hearing @realDonaldTrump being called a pedophile protector is a highlight of the day…. Because he is.

A part of me enjoy the thought of the wives/partners of ICE agents cheating on them with immigrants while these clowns are out “working”. Also… Why can’t there be some hackers releasing all their names and addresses?!
