Big clean power milestone in Colorado!
More than half of the state's power across the year is now generated from wind, solar, and a bit of hydro.
Wind and solar power have more than tripled in the last decade, pushing fossil power below 50%, down from over 80% in 2015.

This El Niño has now set ocean temperature records for 150+ days straight.
Average temperatures in the central equatorial Pacific Ocean have reached 86.4°F (30.2°C), while maximum temperatures have climbed to 88.8°F (31.6°C).
But this El Niño is about more than just numbers 🧵

According to Cloudflare Data Explorer the amount of russian bot traffic has dropped to 49% after Ukraine struck a yandex data center. Could this disrupt the midterm elections in the US?

🚨 This is pretty wild... the average global sea surface temperature (outside of the polar regions) is still above 70°F (21.1°C) through the end of September. This is significantly above the prior record.
We'll cover this in our October climate briefing: climatecentral-org.zoom.us/w…

The Shame of Donald Trump
Donald Trump skipped the 9/11 memorial because it would not let him be the main character.
Twenty-five years after the attacks, Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush stood at Ground Zero and honored the 2,977 people murdered that day. The sitting president of the United States could not be bothered.
The New York ceremony does not allow political speeches. It is for the dead. That was a deal-breaker. So Trump went to the Pentagon, where he could grab a microphone and turn remembrance into a performance.
Four former presidents showed up for the victims. Trump showed up for Trump.

🌡 UN Environment Programme's new report finds that global temperature rise is set to cross 1.5°C, likely within the next few years.
Limiting global warming to 1.5°C has been the world's North Star for climate action. A critical benchmark against which policies are set and progress is measured.
So, what happens if we breach it? ➡️ go.wri.org/1-5-c-tw

The planet will keep getting hotter, even with ongoing efforts to slow the temperature rise. But choices exist.
Every fraction of a degree prevented, and every year by which the overshoot period is shortened, will save lives, protect ecosystems, and reduce economic losses.

Bonsoir X.
