The 10-year Long Residence cohort is arguably among the most integrated immigrant groups in the UK. We have spent nearly a decade here, grown up in British society, achieved some of the highest levels of English proficiency and gained British qualifications. We have studied, worked, paid taxes, contributed to our communities and invested years of our lives building a future here. In terms of time spent in the UK, integration and accumulated contribution, our cohort has given enormously to this country. Yet we are now facing the prospect of having the settlement pathway we relied upon fundamentally changed, with no meaningful protection for those already on it. How can a system that claims to reward integration disregard a cohort that has demonstrated it through almost a decade of living, studying and contributing in the UK? We are not asking for preferential treatment. We are asking for our time, commitment and contribution to be recognised. Do not punish those who have already spent nearly a decade building their lives in Britain. Protect the Long Residence cohort. #LongResidence #EarnedSettlement #LongResidence #10YearLongResidence #EarnedSettlement #Settlement #ILR #IndefiniteLeaveToRemain #ProtectLongResidence #TransitionalArrangements #FairSettlement #FairnessForMigrants #ImmigrationReform #UKImmigration #MigrantRights #IntegrationMatters #RecogniseOurContribution #OurLivesAreHere #BritishSociety #LongResidenceCohort #ProtectOurFuture #HomeOffice @ukhomeoffice @ShabanaMahmood @JoWhiteSays @AnnelieseDodds

🚨 The UK’s 10-year Long Residence route is at risk of being abolished. Those who have already spent years working towards settlement deserve fair transitional protection. Please help protect those already on this pathway! ✍️ Sign: petition.parliament.uk/petit… 🔁 Please share!

I've lived in the UK since 2019: 5 years of study at intl fees (up to £36.5k a year), over £300k spent here. I've worked, paid NI, tax and never claimed benefits. My husband, career, friends and cats are all here. Yet none of my years count towards settlement. #EarnedSettlement

To answer some common questions: My visas have always been valid. I studied, then worked on the Graduate visa, and I'm now on a dependant visa that allows work. I've paid tax, NI, the IHS and visa fees, and never claimed a penny in benefits.

Why should study time count? Because the rules said it would: Student and Graduate time has counted towards the 10-year Long Residence route for years. I planned my life around that. I'm not asking for special treatment, just for the rules not to change retrospectively.

My husband, my friends, my career and even my cat are all here. I followed every rule and paid my way. All I'm asking for is fair transitional protection for people already on the Long Residence route. #EarnedSettlement

Under the new settlement rules, none of those 8 years count, because I was on student visas. I'm about to start work on a dependant visa, and those years won't count either, however much tax and NI I pay. My clock hasn't even started
