9,600 Cr. of net FII/DII investment flowed into Indian equities on 20 Sep 2024...
...Took Nifty up by 1.5%
And...
...a mere 30% (3,146 Cr.) of that flowed out on 30th Sep leading to the Index fall of nearly 1.5%.
1,000 cr of inflow into MF schemes every day, (approx 70 Lac Crores - MFs AUM) has created a monster that's riding a tiger.
If just 1% of this (70,000 Cr. - 60% of which is retail money) comes for redemption, I'm unsure if the Indian market has the depth to handle that.
And no one esp. Retail investors would get a chance to leave the proverbial party and avoid the stampede.

There really is no intelligent reason to increase your trading size if your positions are showing losses.

Today I am sad. And angry.
My friend @TomHougaard, one of the most extraordinary human beings, finally had enough yesterday.
He closed down his Telegram channel that he was running for years now. Educating people about daytrading and showing his trading. Live. Without charging as much as a single Cent.
He was kind enough to answer hundreds of messages.
And, still, there are abusive people. Who not only took Tom for granted, but felt at liberty to put their anger and frustration on him. And that went on for years.
He left thousands of his followers shocked when he resigned yesterday.
But who can blame a man, who only gave and never ask anything in return, when he prioritizes his own sanity before running an educational channel for free.
One of the greatest traders, with a very unique outlook on the market left the stage. He educated thousands of people with knowledge, trading systems and his wisdom.
My humble command of the English language probably can't do justice to the magnitude of the situation.
The trading world has lost one of it's biggest educators.
Tom will be missed.

DON'T ARGUE WITH DONKEYS
"The donkey said to the tiger:
"The grass is blue."
The tiger replied:
"No, the grass is green."
The discussion heated up, and the two decided to go to the lion, the king of the jungle.
Already before reaching the forest, where the lion was sitting on his throne, the donkey began to shout:
"His Highness, is it true that the grass is blue?"
The lion replied:
"True, the grass is blue."
The donkey hurried and continued:
"The tiger disagrees with me and contradicts and annoys me, please punish him."
The king then declared:
"The tiger will be punished with 5 years of silence."
The donkey jumped cheerfully and went on his way, content and repeating:
"The grass is blue!"
The tiger accepted his punishment, but he asked the lion:
"Your Majesty, why have you punished me? After all, the grass is green."
The lion replied:
"In fact, the grass is green."
The tiger asked:
"So why are you punishing me?"
The lion replied:
"That has nothing to do with the question of whether the grass is blue or green. The punishment is because it is not possible for a brave and intelligent creature like you to waste time arguing with a donkey, and on top of that come and bother me with that question."
The worst waste of time is arguing with the fool and fanatic who does not care about truth or reality, but only the victory of his beliefs and illusions. Never waste time on arguments that don't make sense... There are people who, no matter how much evidence and evidence we present to them, are not in the capacity to understand, and others are blinded by ego, hatred and resentment, and all they want is to be right even if they are not. When ignorance screams, intelligence is silent. Your peace and quietness are worth more."

This is one of the hardest things to teach yourself.

Yet it is key.

See trading a small account as a rite of passage.
If you can grow a small account―even modestly―you sure as hell can grow a big account.
If you can't grow a small account, then you shouldn't even try to grow a big account.

Mark Minervini:
"Some investors will try to get in before the breach of the pivot point to save a few pennies on the trade. Assuming that a stock will break out is dangerous.
If the pivot point is tight, there is no material advantage in getting in early; you will accomplish little except to take on unnecessary risk. Let the stock break above the pivot and prove itself. The pivot point is only one part of the overall setup, but it’s the most important piece of the puzzle before I buy a stock, because it is the final determinant of when I’m going to pull the trigger and risk my capital."
Minervini highlights a critical aspect of momentum trading: the importance of pivot points as a timing mechanism for entering trades. His advice centers on the patience and discipline required to wait for a clear signal rather than preemptively jumping into a position. Let's break down and expand on these concepts for momentum traders learning to time their trades:
Understanding Pivot Points
Definition: Pivot points in trading are technical analysis indicators used to identify potential levels of significant support or resistance, and a breakout above (or below) a pivot point is seen as a strong signal of a continuing trend.
Importance: For momentum traders, pivot points serve as markers that help to confirm the reemergence of strength and direction of a stock trend after some period of consolidation. Entering a trade as the price breaks through a pivot point can provide a higher probability of the trade moving in the desired direction because it signifies that the demand is overcoming the supply.
The Danger of Premature Entry
Risk of Assumption: Trying to enter a trade before the price breaches the pivot point to save on costs assumes that the breakout will happen. This assumption introduces unnecessary risk because it ignores the possibility that the price might not break through the pivot point and instead reverse direction.
Increased Uncertainty: Entering before the breakout means operating without the confirmation that the pivot point provides. This can lead to entering trades that have a lower probability of success, increasing the likelihood of losses.
The Advantage of Waiting
Confirmation: Waiting for the stock to break above the pivot point provides confirmation of the stock's momentum. This confirmation reduces the risk of entering a trade based on a false signal.
Risk Management: By entering after the pivot point is breached, traders can better manage their risk. They have a clear point (the pivot point) to set their stop-loss orders below, which can help in limiting potential losses if the market moves against them.
Efficiency: Although waiting might mean entering at a slightly higher price, the efficiency of entering a trade with a higher probability of success can outweigh the cost. The slight increase in entry cost is a trade-off for reduced risk and improved odds of a successful trade.
Integrating Pivot Points into a Trading Strategy
Overall Setup: Pivot points should be part of a broader trading setup that includes other factors such as price and volume pattern, trend, market awareness, and possibly other technical indicators. No single indicator should be used in isolation.
Patience and Discipline: Successful momentum trading requires patience to wait for the right conditions and discipline to act decisively when they occur. The ability to wait for a stock to prove its strength by breaking through a pivot point is a testament to a disciplined trading approach.
Continuous Learning: Momentum traders should continually refine their understanding of pivot points and other technical indicators through study, backtesting, and practice in live trading (preferably starting with small amounts or simulated trading environments until they have proven real trading skill development).
By emphasizing the importance of pivot points and the discipline to wait for confirmed breakouts, Minervini provides valuable guidance for momentum traders. The key takeaway is that successful trading is not just about acting quickly but also about acting wisely, with a clear strategy and an understanding of the risks involved.
