By God, I made the same mistake during my first appearance at the High Court.
In a bid to apply for a stand down, I called the Judge "My love" instead of "My Lord."
My Lord pretend as if she no hear wetin I talk 😆.

Saying my friend should not marry my sister is synonymous with saying I should not do business with my family or friend(s) or we should not share the same house with my brother and our wives.
With whom else then? Someone I can barely trust? C'mon!

A man would say yes to save the woman from embarrassment.
A woman would never save the man she doesn't like from such embarrassment. Infact, he's not the one getting embarrassed, she's the one.
Women are ruthless, men aren't.

"What does Nigeria benefit from Northern Nigeria?"
This take is braindead, lazy, and stinks of cheap bigotry dressed as analysis.

I am sick of Northern Nigeria. Nothing good comes out of that place. It's always death and destruction. How can Nigeria thrive when we have a whole region destined to fail? How can a people be so useless to world, even to themselves? They have become one of the poverty capitals of the world. They have millions of out-of-school children, some of whom will inevitably become tomorrow's terrorists. They personify religious extremism. Northern Nigeria is a killing field, basking in retrogression.
What does Nigeria benefit from Northern Nigeria?
See, we had better prepare our minds because if the Yoruba people intend to be great, it almost certainly wouldn't happen within Nigeria, and we know those who are too desperate to keep Nigeria alive because they know they are doomed outside of it. Yoruba, prepare your mind for the possibility of war in the future, and plan accordingly. Only the strong survive!

The most loving thing you can do for the people around you is get your own life together. When you're rested, you're more patient. When you're healthy, you show up better. When your work is going well, you're easier to be around. When you respect yourself, people feel it. Taking care of yourself is not separate from taking care of the people you love. It's the foundation of it.

Your message has been received.
You seem rather uninformed about what Nigerians benefit from trading with the North, so let me give you a few examples: hides and skins, cattle, cereals and grains, and cash crops such as groundnuts, sesame seeds, soybeans, shea nuts and shea butter, among others.
Beyond agriculture and livestock, the North also has significant mineral resources, including lithium, copper, nickel, columbite-tantalite, niobium, titanium-bearing minerals, zircon sand and rare-earth-bearing minerals such as bastnäsite etc.
So, if your argument is that the North contributes nothing to Nigeria's economy, you're simply wrong. Ignorance may be bliss, but it doesn't make a false argument true.
I don't expect bigot like who appears to harbour such hostility towards the North to appreciate its contributions. That's entirely your business. But disguising that hostility and bitterness as a call for Yorubas to take up arms in pursuit of a better future is absolutely ridiculous. You can advocate for a better Nigeria without demonising an entire region or encouraging conflict.

As a lawyer, it's okay to be under pressure by family, friends, clients and everyone. The world has high expectations of you from the day you start studying law but then, calm down and take a step at a time.

Apt.
For me, career driven women are not my preference.
I respect their choice but can not just be with them.
In fact, they irk me.
The reason most men work hard is because of their families: their wives, children, parents, and sometimes other relatives. For many responsible men, family is their primary motivation. They put their families first in the decisions they make and the sacrifices they are willing to make. And this makes them happy and fulfilled..
So, when you say women should decenter marriage, what exactly are you saying? Are you suggesting that a woman should not consider her husband and children the most important people she makes sacrifices for? That she should not put her family first in the decisions she makes?
Sometimes, we need to be sincere with ourselves. We cannot expect men to sacrifice their time, energy, and comfort for their families while simultaneously advocating for women not to do the same.
For the responsible men, I pray that you end up with women who, after Allah, will genuinely prioritise you and your families. Women who will not always place their careers, ambitions, or other worldly pursuits above you.

A week ago, I met an elderly person on the bus. After exchanging greetings, He introduced himself as a Lawyer and we had a brief chat.
When it was time for me to pay, he said: "It is against professional ethics for you to pay when I'm sitted here."
Thank you Mr. Balogun.
I was in Court today for my cases and I witnessed an interesting episode before my cases were called.
A young lawyer was sent to court by her principal for a matter that was slated for trial. The lawyer on the other side is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria with over 50years of experience. When the matter was called, the young lawyer stood up to inform the court that her principal was in his way to court to handle the matter as she was not briefed to proceed with the trial. Immediately, the court told her to start looking at the file as the matter must proceed. The court stood the matter down for like 2hours.
When it was recalled again, the young lawyer’s principal was not still in court and the SAN was prepared to proceed. The SAN put his witness in the box and tendered all the documents. When it was now the turn of the young lawyer to cross examine the witness, she stood up with confidence and said: my Lord, we will like to take a short adjournment to enable us cross-examine the witness. In the interest of justice, I plead to the court to allow us come back. Clearly showing hesitation to adjourn the matter, the court called upon the SAN to respond to the young lady’s application for adjournment. Some of us in court were already thinking the SAN would insist the young lawyer must proceed, so as to gain an unfair advantage in the case, as cross examination is a crucial part of the case.
The learned SAN stood up and said: my Lord, I was in this lady’s position 51years ago. My principal gave me a file for a case for trial and when the matter was called upon, clearly I wasn’t ready to go on, I stood up to ask for an adjournment. Thanks to the senior counsel on the other side, who extended grace to me to concede to an adjournment. So it is my turn to extend the same grace to another younger lawyer, and I hope in the future, when she also finds herself in similar situation, she will extend the same grace to the junior lawyer. So my Lord, I will not be objecting the her application for adjournment.
Everybody in court including the young lawyer immediately wore a wide smile on their faces. It was a sigh of relief for the young lawyer. Then the judge said to the young lawyer: thank your luck that the SAN extended grace to you, and now I don’t have any option but to grant your request for an adjournment. The judge added however that: the tenacity of the lady not to go on was impressive. But admonished her to always be familiar with the facts of the case and be ready to proceed regardless of whether the principal was coming to court or not.

Under the UK Prevent Duty framework, individuals and institutions are required to identify and report concerns regarding radicalization and extremist ideologies.
If a student enrolled at the University of Sunderland is identified as holding or promoting extremist ideologies, a formal report should be submitted to Northumbria Police.
Please compile any relevant evidence or details regarding this individual and forward them directly to @northumbriapol

As you are preparing your witness, also teach them respect and decorum towards the court and counsel.
This witness attitude in the box won't help at all. Court's takes note of demeanor too. Even the court has to point it out that demeanor is part of the obligation of courts to observe it.
Don't have a good witness tarnish the case with a bad disposition.

Living in a diverse society means everyone has to compromise and accept that their personal moral rules don't govern the public space. The tension arises when religious communities demand that society bend to their dietary, social, or legal codes rather than adapting to the shared, secular rules of the land.
