you start to appreciate older artists the more you create music. everyone is referencing someone before them, so the closer you are to the source, the more unique sounds you can make and the better your music will be.
I’m not dying for young people to be interested in the same artists I was at their age, but I will say it’s important to do the knowledge on anything you’re interested in lol like I can’t imagine not going back to explore Stevie Wonder’s music because it’s “old.”

as a city that prides itself for being on the cutting edge, SF is surprisingly consensus there's a narrow view of which verticals and companies confer status

a core part of your media diet needs to come from irl. when people ask where i draw inspiration from it's often hard to say because much of it comes from museums, live shows, nature and literally my experiences through life. i've seen @orenmeetsworld talk about how important it is to have references others don't to do differentiated creative work. a big part of that is structuring your life in a way where you're actually absorbing the world you live in. we have more senses than just our eyes and feelings more complex than what can be evoked through a screen. if you think of your media diet as everything you consume and absorb, you're incentivized to structure your life to cover more surface area and that makes your mind a thousand times more colorful

don't get me started on how NIMBYism reinforces the racial inequities put in place by redlining. DON'T GET ME STARTED
This is def not a transplant vs native issue, but it certainly is an issue that everyone should read this book to learn more about

who’s going to vibe code the blacklist
Anyone coming into my mentions downplaying sexual assault, abuse of women or just general rampant misogyny in SF “rationalist”/EA AI safety world is not anyone we should be listening to about AI safety. If u actually cared abt risk from AI you’d root out abusers, not elevate them

redistribution only works when you’re producing something to distribute in the first place. if Johnny has 5 apples, redistribution is not going to turn 5 apples into 10.
I think the fundamental YIMBY insight is that, if you live in a society which imposes artificial scarcity on basic necessities like housing and health care, then there is no amount of redistribution which will make them broadly available to the poor. You need supply-side changes.
