I’m Canadian and yes it’s absolutely a slur. We’ve been told this for a long time now. Just because you haven’t heard it doesn’t mean it isn’t true, especially if you don’t live in Canada or Alaska. Listen to Indigenous peoples on their own issues. Listen to Inuit people
