Unemployment does more than deprive a young man of money. It slowly attacks his confidence, self-esteem, and sense of purpose. Watching your peers make progress while your own life remains stagnant can make you question your worth, even when your circumstances are not entirely your fault.

Kenya’s constitutional democracy currently faces a troubling danger, being, the weaponisation of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) to convert ordinary political and social contests into constitutional litigation.
Lawyers, activists, organisations and political interests increasingly resort to constitutional petitions to challenge decisions made by elected institutions. Every tax policy, legislative initiative, administrative decision or political arrangement has become an invitation for judges to interrogate the exercise of sovereign power through increasingly far-fetched constitutional tests.
What is the place of judicial overreach in a democracy like ours?
Judges are not elected representatives of the people. They do not receive a popular mandate to formulate national policy or determine every political question confronting the country. Their authority is constitutional. They interpret the Constitution to protect rights and check illegality etc but they must equally respect the constitutional space reserved for elected institutions and its politics.
The Constitution cannot be interpreted so expansively that every political decision becomes a justiciable controversy merely because a creative litigant can attach an Article of the Constitution to it giving an equally-imaginative judge to get another Article to back it up.
Consider the BBI litigation in David Ndii & others v Attorney General & others, the Finance Act, 2023 litigation in National Assembly v Okoiti, and the litigation challenging the Social Health Insurance Act, the Digital Health Act and the Primary Health Care Act in Aura v Cabinet Secretary for Health.
These are just some of the cases that have drawn courts directly into the most consequential political and policy questions of the day. In the BBI for instance, some judges were so audacious that they felt the need to dictate to the PEOPLE what can and can not be changed in the Constitution.
PIL has now given political players and shadowy actors instruments for to obtain through litigation what they cannot obtain through democratic contestation.
As time passes by, I tend to agree with @Mongareokiro1 who subscribes to Prof. Githu Muigai’s scholarship on constitutional interpretation.
Constitutional adjudication must rest on principled, coherent and objectively defensible reasoning.
Not every social, ecomonic or political question is need to be answered by a judge!

🇰🇿 Every country has its own national interests, and in any negotiations, Kazakhstan’s interests must always come first.
I support the President Tokayev’s view that the Turkic Council shouldn’t turn into a military alliance , and agree with Samat Nordman - ex-MP of Kazakhstsan on this. He makes a very valid point about Kazakhstan’s geopolitical realities.
Turkey 🇹🇷 is a NATO member. Given our geopolitical reality, the position of our two powerful neighbours towards NATO is well known. Turkey operates within the NATO security framework and has a very different strategic position. But Kazakhstan, which maintains close political, military, economic, cultural and social ties with both China and Russia, cannot afford to ignore the potential consequences of such military cooperation.
We need to be realistic about the world we live in. Every country must assess its capabilities, circumstances and limitations. If you have the capacity to do something, do it. If you don’t, don’t. Every decision should be guided by one fundamental question: Will this benefit our people or harm them?
I believe our society should support President Tokayev’s decision.
Of course, we should continue strengthening our relations with Turkey. Trade with them, visit as tourists, maintain visa-free travel, expand flight connections and host the World Nomad Games. There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of that.
But military cooperation and military alliances are an entirely different matter. China and Russia would inevitably view such developments through their own security interests. And we cannot pretend that their reactions would have no consequences for Kazakhstan.
Turkey, which shares no borders with either China or Russia, is in a fundamentally different geopolitical position from Kazakhstan, which shares borders with both. Our strategic circumstances are simply not comparable.
This is not about choosing sides or distancing ourselves from Turkey. It is about understanding our geography, protecting our sovereignty and avoiding unnecessary geopolitical risks.
At the end of the day, we must be guided by realism, not emotions or political romanticism. Kazakhstan’s national interests must come first.

To be a celebrated African INTELLECTUAL, do you:
-develop a new scientific theory. Nope.
- invent groundbreaking technology. Nope.
- whine about colonialism with eloquent English. YES.
We have turned the African voice into a perpetual whine fest. This is why no one respects us around the world. Everyone else got occupied, colonised, invaded, pillaged. Often worse than what Africa went through, and even longer. Those countries have surpassed us, some even surpassing their former colonisers in GDP per capita. Still, all we do is whine.
Can we please stop?
They invited her to Berlin thinking she would praise them. Instead, she exposed their blood-soaked history.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie didn't hold back. She exposed the ultimate Western lie. They teach their kids to "help the poor Africans," but completely erase the fact that Belgium’s King Leopold turned the Congo into a personal slaughterhouse. Millions murdered. Hands chopped off for rubber.
They don't teach the truth because the truth is a debt they can never repay.

Bayern will receive €5m for the trip to Nairobi, Kenya to play a friendly against Ajax on January 5th. Vincent Kompany approved the trip, which was then handled by Marketing and sales director Rouven Kasper. 'For that kind of money, you have to do it', it was said at Säbener Straße [@mano_bonke]

I care little about football and stadiums, but it would be sad if rich European clubs took millions from a third-world country that could be better used on programs like healthcare, and then proceeded to field retired players for PR.
Human rights activists and citizens in Kenya have launched a campaign, urging FC Bayern and Ajax to boycott the scheduled friendly between the two teams in Nairobi on January 5th. Critics argue that public funds and millions are being misallocated toward an expensive international exhibition match amid domestic economic pressures, the rising cost of living, healthcare challenges and human rights issues. They also claim that this match serves as a political leverage and campaign tool ahead of upcoming elections amid ongoing public discontent over governance, taxation, and human rights in the country 🇰🇪
