From Scriptwriter Shin Yiwon: “I think the well-placed reactions added even more enjoyment to the viewing experience. As for the scene that I felt was performed even more perfectly than what was written in the script. In #SongKang’s case, it was the scene in Episode 5 where Pio loses his music sheet, hits rock bottom, and confesses that he’s finally giving up on his one-sided love affair with the piano. And because he portrayed the deep heartbreak of that unrequited love so calmly it made viewers' hearts break even more. It was truly top-tier acting. Scriptwriter Shin Yiwon talked about Kang Pio and praised #SongKang for his portrayal as Pio “Unfortunately the two characters, whose paths had become so tragically entangled, eventually went in completely different directions. For ten years, Pio’s life had been deteriorating under the weight of guilt and longing. His life was much like the passage in Human Acts (Han Kang, Changbi, 2014): [After you died, I couldn’t hold a funeral for you and my life became a funeral.] Because of his own insecurities and greed, Pio loses his friend and becomes trapped in a *stagnant/ frozen life. Yet he cannot bring himself to tell a single soul. I wanted to visually capture how he was slowly *collapsing / rotting away from inside out. But I was genuinely astonished by how brilliantly actor Song Kang portrayed this through his sorrowful eyes. I cannot imagine anyone other than Song Kang playing Pio. He seemed to understand the profound emotions buried deep within Pio’s heart.
