NEW: Reporting from Reuters and Al Arabiya are stating that Qatari mediators are now in Tehran attempting to bridge the ENORMOUS gap between the United States and Iran in order to try to avoid a significant escalation in the coming days that seems almost unavoidable at this point. What should noted here is that there is VERY LITTLE CHANCE that any peace deal is agreed to between the U.S. and Iran in the coming days. This is because part of Iran’s leverage and “revenge” is destroying the remainder of Trump’s presidency. As we saw during the Memorandum of Understanding, the United States has no intention of surrendering to Iran. It is simply too much for Trump to swallow for his own legacy. The ONLY way that I could see Iran accepting any kind of deal before the U.S. midterms therefore, is by the United States transferring an EXORBITANT amount of money directly into the Iranian Central Bank. This would need to be done in an irreversible manner. This is because the United States has repeatedly shown that any concession to Iran that CAN be reversed WILL be reversed. See the Iranian oil sanction waivers under General License X that were revoked well in advance of their initial 60-day window. No. Unfortunately there is VERY LITTLE reason to believe that a deal can be made to avoid a resumption of the war… at least before the U.S. midterms take place.
