After twenty two U2 tussles on Twitter with folk who hate them out of principle, @u2’s Zooropa is the album of the weekend: futuristic. Ironic. Unhinged.

The scrambled eggs at a hotel breakfast are 19% water, and they're dyed.
A lot of hotels and cafeterias pour them from a carton of Papetti's Breakfast Blend. The spec sheet reads whole eggs, 19% water, then under 2% of salt, xanthan gum, citric acid, annatto color and natural butter flavor. Papetti's is part of Michael Foods, one of the biggest egg processors in the country.
Every ingredient has a job on a steam table. Xanthan gum holds the added water in the egg so it doesn't weep into the pan. Citric acid keeps the eggs from turning gray or green under a heat lamp. Annatto puts back the yolk color the water washed out. The butter flavor is there because nobody is going to add butter. The carton keeps for 98 days in the cooler.
The plain version from the same company is whole eggs, whey, skim milk, xanthan and citric acid, with almost no added water and half the sodium.

Few poems describe a gentleman's character better than Kipling's "If—," and few men read it better than Sir Michael Caine.

My advice: close the curtains, dispense of the digital device, switch off the telly.
Read for a bit.

On this day in 1983, Duran Duran released “Union of the Snake.” With slithering synths, a hypnotic bassline and a surreal MTV video, it climbed to No. 3 in both the UK and US. The '80s rarely sounded cooler.
The world seems to be sharing its nine favourite albums on Facebook, so I thought I’d join in.
Nine @kiss klassics, ranked in order. No apologies, no Destroyer, and yes, Dynasty really is that good.
Nine records. Four painted faces. An unreasonable amount of great music.

Dear KISS,

The Tricolore textbooks did not prepare us for all this shit going off in France. The most exciting thing that ever happened in La Rochelle was Annette falling off her bike or Philippe enjoying a particularly tense game of le badminton down l'auberge de jeunesse.

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Monthly reminder that in the last Narnia book, the king of Narnia is tied to a tree helpless while his people are slaughtered by brown devil worshippers from the south who were let into the country by an Atheist Monkey who tricks everyone by using a SKINSUIT of their religion.
C.S. Lewis’ family has issued an official statement supporting Greta Gerwig’s Narnia and praising her lifelong passion for the books. bit.ly/4Buu39d
