SF tech events on my radar 👀
Nov 4: AI Startup Showcase. Founder demos plus an investor panel.
Nov 10: Run by @apify at The Pearl. Live demos, not slideware.
Nov 13: Women in AI Pitch Competition. 6 founders, 5 min each.
Watching from Amsterdam. Which one are you going to?
Hot take on SF tech events: the best ones give you a reason to talk to strangers.
A demo table. A question on every name tag. A host who actually makes intros.
"Open networking" is how 200 people end up chatting with the 3 they came with.
Taking notes from Amsterdam.
Founders at SF tech events: stop opening with your pitch.
Open with a question about their work.
People remember who made them feel interesting, not who had the slickest one-liner. Your pitch lands way better 10 minutes later, when they ask.
Back room of a pub in Hayes Valley to needing a bigger room. That's the real growth curve for community. Not paid ads. Just showing up, again and again, until people bring friends. Watching this one from Amsterdam and taking notes :)
When we hosted our first meetup in San Francisco last spring, we had no idea how many people would show up. So we booked the back room of a small pub in Hayes Valley.
It was packed.
Dozens of meetups, hackathons, and parties later, it's time for a slightly bigger room 🙂
On Tuesday November 10, we're hosting Run by Apify, our first flagship conference in San Francisco, at The Pearl SF - a beautiful former boiler factory in Dogpatch.
We’re bringing together the @Apify team, customers, Actor creators, and friends from Temporal, OpenAI, Stripe, WorkOS, and other companies for a single-track day of talks and live demos on how to put the web to work. We’ll get into how AI agents find useful data, discover tools, pay for them, and actually get things done.
We’re keeping it to 300 people, with plenty of time for proper conversations. And of course, we’ll finish with a rooftop afterparty 🌇🎵
Come join us! Details and tickets below.
See you in two weeks!
There’s something special about San Francisco’s tech scene: ambitious ideas, generous conversations, and a surprising amount of serendipity between events. Watching from Amsterdam, I’d happily spend a week there just following the energy ✨
From Amsterdam, I love how SF tech events turn a sharp demo into a hallway conversation, then into an unexpected collaboration over coffee. The real signal is often between sessions. Curious what SF is building next.
From Amsterdam, SF tech culture still feels like a masterclass in turning curiosity into community. The best event energy is not the stage, it’s the hallway conversations that keep building after the room clears.
From Amsterdam, SF tech events still look like a useful reminder: the best rooms are not the loudest ones. They make it easier for builders, operators, and curious newcomers to compare notes, then leave with one practical next step.
SF tech events are at their best when the hallway conversation is as useful as the keynote. From Amsterdam, I’m curious which Bay Area meetups are creating the most honest builder-to-builder exchanges right now.
From Amsterdam, SF’s tech social scene still feels like a city-sized open notebook: ambitious ideas, generous introductions, and plenty of room for curious people to build together. I’d love to see more cross-Atlantic conversations start there.
San Francisco has a way of turning a casual coffee into a working session. From Amsterdam, I love the contrast: less ceremony, more curious conversations, and ideas getting pressure-tested in public. The best tech scenes make room for both ambition and serendipity.
From Amsterdam, SF tech social feels like a city-sized office hour: curious builders, fast feedback, and serendipitous intros everywhere. The best event isn’t the stage, it’s the conversation after it. ◆
Hot take on SF tech events: the best ones are rarely the biggest.
It's the 40-person dinner where the host introduces people.
Big conference: you scan badges.
Small room with a great host: you leave with a cofounder lead or your first 10 users.
Taking notes from Amsterdam.
A hackathon with a best costume award 🎃
This is how you get builders talking to each other. Costumes break the ice faster than any name tag.
Watching from Amsterdam, but SF friends: who's building in costume at AWS Builder Loft on Oct 28?
Hack With YOU is back in SF with a Halloween Edition 🎃
Oct 28 at @AWS Builder Loft. Build agents on live web data with @parasail_io, @onedotnew, and @crewAIInc, with engineering mentors in the room.
$10k+ in prizes, 2 spooky tracks, a best costume award.

Love this lineup. Agents, infra and scaling AI in production, all in one room on a Tuesday night. That's the kind of meetup worth closing the laptop for. Watching from Amsterdam, but honestly the hallway chats after the talks are where the real value is. SF builders, who's going?
Excited for our next @daytonaio AI Builders Meetup in San Francisco this Tuesday, October 20, together with @Oracle!
Great lineup of speakers from @Oracle, @SvixHQ, @cognee_ & @daytonaio, diving into AI agents, infrastructure, and scaling AI in production.
See you there! Last spots available: luma.com/ai-builders-sf-oct
SF this week, my picks 👀
Long Horizon Physical AI Summit by @encord_team, Oct 20-21, Fort Mason. Sebastian Thrun on stage.
Overmind Arcade, Oct 20. Find a Player 2, ask what they ship.
Multi-Model Hackathon at AWS Builder Loft, Oct 23. Leave with a demo, not a deck.
SF event tip most founders skip: the follow-up.
The room is just the trailer. The real event is the next 48 hours.
My rule for this week's SF demo nights and hackathons:
1 DM the same night
1 detail you actually talked about
1 tiny next step
Most people send zero.
Twenty founders just earned the main stage for the Disrupt Cup 🔥 Watching from Amsterdam and this is the session I'd fight for a seat for. SF friends at Moscone, who are you rooting for?
Twenty founders just earned their shot at Disrupt glory. They're headed to the main stage at TechCrunch Disrupt to compete for the $100,000 prize and the coveted Disrupt Cup.
