Lawmakers holding these hearings... ā€œshows how much health care costs have risen on the political radar,ā€ said Anthony Wright, the executive director of @FamiliesUSA, a Washington, D.C., consumer advocacy group. nytimes.com/2026/01/22/healt…

This is what putting South Carolina first looks like. I’m honored to have the support of two former governors — Republican David Beasley and Democrat Jim Hodges. We may not agree on everything, but we share a belief that matters most: South Carolina deserves leaders who will always put its people first.

Killing the enhanced subsidies was the first ACA nuclear bomb. This is the second one. Half of ACA enrollees typically auto-renew. (You really shouldn’t do that for other reasons but banning it is will be devastating)
The pre-enrollment verification proposed rule just dropped from CMS. This implements a major piece of the ā€œBig Beautiful Billā€ that effectively ends auto-renewals for ACA enrollees with subsidies

Good article today from the NYT. I have still yet to hear one good reason why we should get rid of a broad, multi purpose space to satisfy one thing and one thing only. It defies imagination and what PUBLIC space is meant to be. nytimes.com/interactive/2026…

The Civil War almost literally came out of a national conflict to decide the Senator from Kansas
In the grand sweep of American history, it’s not normal or natural for someone from New York to care who the Senator from Kansas is

Deep Space Nine should immediately change its name to Terok Nor. We are not Deep Space Nine, we are Terok Nor! The name would add great value and prestige to the Promenade! Commerce, Ore Processing and Incomes would rise, and everyone would be even prouder! #StarTrek #Sisko197

We're in another campaign where voters may punish the party in power for disrupting the status quo in health care, this time for changes to Medicaid and the ACA. It also happened in 2018 after Republicans tried to repeal the ACA, and in 2010 after Democrats passed the ACA.

It's so weird that amidst the 21st century tech boom, the Bay Area has actually *lost* pro sports teams since apparently none of these tech geniuses is normal enough to want to be a local hero and own a baseball team.

East PotomacĀ Park was established more than a century ago by Congress for the recreational leisure of the people: golfers, hikers, bikers, walkers, yoga classes and you name it. Hundreds of thousands of people in the DMV and visitors from elsewhere enjoy this beautiful landmark. Of course, Trump’s now trying to steal it for another imbecilic vanity project so billionaires and Trump’s royal court have another place to golf. They have already illegally demolished hundreds of trees where they want the new course to go. With Halloween approaching, maybe it’s time for a march of the Loraxes to stop this criminal desecration and destruction of federal property. washingtonpost.com/sports/20…

Sens. Blumenthal and Tillis just organized a bipartisan call with Zelenskyy In a statement they say - "President Zelenskyy confirmed that critical Starlink services remain degraded" - "He also reported disruptions to U.S. intelligence sharing concerning early warning of Russian ballistic missile launches. As a result of these disruptions, civilians – children – are dying. He also raised serious concerns about delays in critical air defense interceptors and the Administration’s decision to waive powerful sanctions against Russia" - ā€œPresident Zelenskyy reiterated his willingness to halt strikes on Russian energy facilities as President Trump has proposed, but only if Putin agrees to the same – a fair request.ā€

šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡¦ Zelenskyy delivers a blunt message to the United States: ā€œJust give us Starlink back. If you refuse, Ukraine will survive. We will continue defending ourselves with or without it. But why would you restrict a country fighting for its survival? Why make it harder for us to defend our people? I simply cannot understand the reasoning behind this decision. It is a mistake.ā€ Ukraine isn’t asking America to fight its war. It’s asking America not to stand in the way of its defense.
