Powering Kenya’s Future: The Siaya Nuclear Power Plant Project
Kenya is standing on the threshold of a historic energy revolution. Energy Cabinet Secretary Hon. Opiyo Wandayi has officially urged for nationwide support as @nuclearkenya and @KenGenKenya embark on the development of the first-ever nuclear power plant in Siaya County. This ambitious KSh 500 billion project is not just about generating electricity; it is a strategic pillar of our national development agenda, designed to provide a stable, clean, and affordable energy base for generations to come. Energy and Petroleum CS further highlighted the government’s commitment to transparency, noting that "public participation is not a mere procedural requirement but a core value of our approach."
As @nuclearkenya, we are committed to leading this transition with the highest standards of safety and transparency. The Siaya plant will initially contribute 1,000 MW to the national grid, serving as a catalyst for industrialization, job creation, and sustainable economic growth. By diversifying our energy mix, we are ensuring that Kenya remains competitive on the global stage while meeting the growing demands of our modern economy.
We invite all stakeholders and the public to join us in this journey toward energy self-sufficiency. Your support is crucial in transforming Kenya into a newly industrialized, middle-income country. Together, we are building a brighter, more resilient future powered by innovation. ^F.K

Yesterday, we held our ceremonial groundbreaking for the Aalo-X colocated data center, turning on in 2027.
This data center, a modular Crusoe Spark system from @CrusoeAI, will run entirely on power from an on-site 10 MWe advanced nuclear plant (Aalo-X).
The program will validate nuclear-powered AI workloads in advance of commercial Aalo Pod deployments.

Everyone anticipated China defecting from the open-source strategy as they approach the frontier.
But just as Kimi 3 come within spitting distance of top US closed models, we’re seeing the Chinese double down on keeping things open.
Xi’s speech explicitly makes open access to top models a question of morality, pointing out it will be a fresh historical injustice if the global south are excluded.
Ali Baba’s Qwen previously were not open-weight. But the new Qwen 3.8 will be.
« Angelica you really expect us to believe the Chinese are doing this out of the goodness of their hearts? »
We can’t judge intentions only action. China has signaled their AI strategy clearly while also having their leader tie it to a moral imperative. The cost of a U-turn from here will be high.
Meanwhile, if the US doubles down on an almost comically evil plan to stay hegemon forever by locking in an insurmountable AI advantage and monopolizing access.
Who are you going to root for as a non-American?

Wyoming workers & producers power our grid and strengthen national security. Advanced manufacturing, Bitcoin mining, AI all demand reliable baseload power.
The U.S. needs more generation, more infrastructure, and a broad energy strategy. Nuclear must be part of that future.

Togo 🇹🇬 has removed visa requirements for all African nationals. Travelers with a valid African passport can now visit visa-free for up to 30 days.
Visitors may still need to complete a simple online travel declaration at least 24 hours before arrival.
The move strengthens regional integration and makes Togo the sixth African country to allow visa-free access for all Africans.

In his speech, Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of @iaeaorg said that for years, finance was a red line separating Africa from the benefits of nuclear energy. Today, that wall is coming down as nuclear projects become bankable and doors of international financing open up.

Are you attending @NEISAfrica this week? Don’t miss an IAEA session on SMR Deployment Readiness!
SMRs are a compelling solution for many African countries as they are more suitable for use in small electricity grids and have a lower upfront capital cost per unit and shorter construction times. This session will provide a comprehensive overview of the global SMR landscape and Africa’s readiness to harness this innovation.
The session is open to all participants and will be held in the Main Auditorium.
