For what it’s worth, the best-ever Asian American novel, Crossings by Chuang Hua, is about a neurotic, middle-class Chinese American woman with parental issues crashing out over her white boyfriend. Published in 1968.

No Nut November? Pretty rude of us to dismiss the Egyptian sky goddess, Nut, for a whole month.

She creates a blog called Musings of a Freethinking Columbia Student. And on this blog, she writes the most vile, racist shit she can come up with in the form of an article. She sprinkles in Laura’s personal details, all the stuff she found out about Laura from stalking her.
And then, like a coward, Elizabeth anonymously directs an anti-racism activist called Amala towards Laura, and Amala is basically tricked into identifying the mysterious blogger as Laura.
Laura is character assassinated and faces campus wide condemnation and public humiliation.
But then Laura publishes her own side of the story and clears her name. Amala’s credibility then goes down the toilet, which leaves Elizabeth vexed because she failed to destroy Laura’s Harvard admission.

I hate philosophy Halloween, what do you mean you’re going as Johann Christian von Mannlich’s portrait of Jacobi, often mistaken for Immanuel Kant?

I’d highly recommend Benedict Anderson’s A Life Beyond Boundaries, especially to anyone familiar with his Imagined Communities. He talks about a frog that lives under half a coconut shell and believes that it contains the whole universe. I think it was kind of funny how some++
