Hersh Goldberg-Polin was kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, held captive for 11 months, and murdered. This week, he received an unexpected tribute on Netflix's "The Diplomat."
In the episode, a British character tells an American character how a soldier named Hershel Polin saved her father during World War II.
The story mirrors what Hersh's friend Aner Shapira did in real life. During the Hamas massacre, Aner stood at the entrance of the bomb shelter they were hiding in and threw grenades back out, again and again. The eighth grenade exploded before he could throw it, and it killed him.
The show was created and written by Debora Cahn, a descendant of Holocaust survivors who has spoken about how her Jewish heritage shapes the way she tells stories about the world.
"It's striking to know there are many people around the world trying to ensure the stories of the hostages are not whitewashed or erased," said Hersh's mother, Rachel Goldberg-Polin.

Horrified by the attempt to assassinate an Australian politician by vehicular ramming, a method of terror seen in Europe and the US. The Albanese Govt has been forced to backflip and demand the return of $308,000 in taxpayer funding which they had given to an extremist, Islamist organisation.
Congratulations to Suzan, Jason, Jessica and the Daily Telegraph for exposing this scandal.
AJA President Robert Gregory said: “AJA welcomes the decision to terminate this grant. Australian taxpayers should never have been put in the position of funding an organisation that spreads hate and undermines social cohesion.
The Daily Telegraph deserves credit for exposing this scandal, but the fact that Jewish leaders had to raise the alarm before the government acted points to a serious failure in the vetting process.
The community deserves answers about how this grant was approved in the first place. There must be accountability for that failure.
Australians will rightly be asking how many other organisations spreading hate are receiving taxpayer funding.
Government funding is a privilege, not an entitlement. Proper scrutiny must take place before a single dollar of public money is approved.”
