I had to try this. AI coded Game Boy dungeon crawler made in ASM. Full algo for light casting and plenty of cycles left to squeeze a decent roguelike simulation in there.
A previous attempt I did in 2014 (jeez, time flies) using C and GBDK. I remember requiring external rom banks but the compiler was a bit buggy when switching banks and gave up.

My weirdo space #deungeoncrawler running on a real #gameboy with shadow casting. #gbdev #gbdk #gbjam
All of a sudden realizing I've created more hardware projects than games in the last few years 😳
Maybe making niche hardware is the solution to software aboundance.

This interview with GabeN is quite interesting:
“Perhaps unsurprisingly, Newell believes that LLM tools are the next great technological leap, and are going to prove so transformative that this is where people should focus their learning.“

Job losses from AI is probably the biggest real issue we're facing right now. I find it absurd that people focus on disclosing AI use on steam to boycot AI as a whole.
The only outcome is hurting a tiny, tiny minority of the AI customer base. Game devs, of all people🤦
I don't know what's it like in the states, but in EU right now ~100 bucks is how much it costs to buy a used and perfectly capable machine for making a playing games (not all games of course ; ).
And not just any machine, look at this beaut.
Add linux and you're off to the races
This game draws inspiration from Cultist Simulator, in Alexis' own words: basically a crafting game with cards.
Back when I tried to prototype it years ago I had two main obstacles that made me give up:
1)the game should allow crazy permutations without ever breaking.

Conveniently skipping that we shipped two years of updates on a free game engine that tried hard to bring creative game making to all skill levels. Also skipped that our new tool actively promotes hand-made 3D sculpting, offered for free, with AI being optional. Oopises 🫠

According to AI bros yes, yes it is.
What they don't like to talk about is they support sweeney because they have a financial incentive to do so, (this guy makes an ai art asset making tool) their AI based products hinges on sweeney getting his way.
It's always about money.
Reminder to the anti-AI crusaders that steam already removed disclosure for any use AI gen code.
Maybe start caring for game devs mental health, salaries and if their employers made them crunch to deliver your game, before worrying so much about the tools involved.

Forcing developers to write a political statement to be used against them by the hate mob they’re helping organize is abhorrent.
The comments on this make me miss the Unbound Slop compaign we launched a few months ago.
Vibe your way to 50K.

I remember when RPS covered my indie game, I was through the roof. Now I read crap like this and I can only feel sadness.
Personal biases based on (I guess) personal political views and genuine ignorance all bundled up in arrogance. This historical moment is such a mess.
"We vibe coded a new Epic Games Launcher" because "programming is hard", announce company we're somehow supposed to see as a serious Steam competitor. bit.ly/4hMHbi5
The roguelike-vania I didn't know I needed 👀@
accidentally made the game 10x more fun by allowing 8-directional spear throws instead of 4, suddenly the kit feels alive—although it's very hard to learn the timing to do it while running
