Punjab’s drug epidemic continues to steal our youth, but the state's response is pure cowardice. Instead of going after the drug mafia destroying families, Mansa Police forcibly seized the body of 35year old Daljit Singh from his mourning family. Denying a grieving family their right to perform final rites isn't just an abuse of power it is a brutal, inhuman violation of basic dignity. @BhagwantMann, Punjab demands accountability, not police brutality against the dead.

The Election Commission has filed its reply in the Supreme Court to the petition on how the three-member Commission functions. 27 pages, approved by all three members. Its argument: every decision was unanimous, and a Commissioner’s note is a “suggestion,” not a decision. Here’s what it addresses, and what it doesn’t. 🧵 (1/10)

#ECI adds controversial declaration to Form 6, and thinks calling something an *addition" will escape the modification tag! Also its affidavit seems silent on #ERONET . Lots of unanswered questions or vaguely answered ones. Picture abhi baaki hai #GyaneshKumar P. S. Picture abhi baaki hai

Looks like EC has wound itself up in a Gordian knot. Because if the decisions were unanimous, why did the other two complain to the Cabinet Secretary? RTI has given us the records.
#BREAKING All SIR-related decisions were unanimous, ECI tells Supreme Court in its counter-affidavit to petitions questioning the Election Commission's functioning.

Why are Sanghis—both openly and closeted—in the words of the Bard, so sodden-witted? If I indulge myself, I could go further and say something to the tune of ‘a boil, a plague-sore, an embossed carbuncle.’
And that's why Modi keeps winning :)

Finally, documentary evidence that #TheHindiHeartland won Godrej @litlivefest Book of the Year 2026 Award in the non-fiction category. My earlier book #BornaMuslim had won the same award (then Tata) in 2021. Much surprise, happiness & gratitude is being felt. Thank you @AlephBookCo for believing in The Hindi Heartland. Thank you @litlivefest for recognizing it.

To every trader in Delhi: We love you and hear you. The Govt shut the metro, sealed our roads and locked down our capital. With a stolen vote nothing is safe - your shop, your savings, your children’s future. Tell Modi to sack accused no. 4, Gyanesh Kumar and the protests will stop in 30 seconds.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA vote share was 43.80%. The INDIA Alliance's vote share was 41.48%. With "just 2% more votes" than their opponents, the BJP - and its supporters like you- behave as if the country is your jagir. So spare me the lessons on hypocrisy.
Replying to @anishgawande
He just got 2% more votes than his opponent. Imagine what you folks would have shouted if modi won the elections by just 1or2 %age points. Shows left hypocrisy and that is why majority of genZ are not falling for your shenanigans except for ideological ones

Serbia. And before that, Hungary. Proves one thing. You can rig elections. You can gerrymander elections. Which is exactly what Orban did. You can rule ruthlessly. You can term genuine anger and discontent as 'foreign funded', albeit with no proof. You can lie through and through. But people will show the way. The arc of history is long, and is sometimes convoluted. But it bends towards people who refuse to be silenced.

From afar, Lula winning and Vucic losing on the same day is hard to ignore. A crystallization of a kind of global anti-nationalist wave that's as real as the steady far-right march we've all spoken and written about for the past decade. And it's cresting a week before US midterms

When Bolsonaro was disgracefully invited as Chief Guest for our Republic Day Parade in 2020, several of us in Mumbai held a protest at Churchgate Station against an abandonment of “Indian values” by a government that turned a blind eye to his environmental destruction, his homophobia, his deep links to organised crime. “Aarey, Amazon, queer ladhai, Modi-Bolsonaro bhai bhai” was the slogan coined at that protest. Today, as the son of one far-right bigot bites the dust in Brazil, much to the relief of so many who were terrorised under his father’s last regime, there is hope reignited for change across the world. Congratulations, Comeback King @LulaOficial. Here’s hoping we can invite you to a Republic Day Parade in New Delhi soon.

Bolsanaro had a familiar playbook in Brazil: paint Lula as an ally of crime syndicates, dismiss journos as enemies of society, and tap into people’s anxieties about the loss of traditional values. How did Lula’s party fight it? No analysis here but important to note how the Left there is rooted in culture/religion: in Catholicism that shaped struggles for workers’ rights, in the neighbourhood bar where people gather to sing samba and drink Cachaca. The Left’s strength comes from being part of everyday life.
Can a divided Brazil still talk to itself? From a Bolsonaro rally in São Paulo to a left-wing bar in Rio, @MnshaP meets Brazilians navigating political fault lines ahead of the election run-off. Watch the full report: youtu.be/__a42fEHdSw
