So far, I’ve discussed three different specific Indian sociological syndromes on the Weekly Vine.
The first is called the Higgins-Macaulay Complex: the belief that fluency in English, delivered with an impressive accent and arcane vocabulary, automatically makes one intellectually superior.
The second is the Toaster Lover Syndrome, the phenomenon where people with absurd convictions find enough like-minded individuals online to convince (or connive) themselves that their lunacy is a righteous moral cause and and anyone who disagrees is a bigot.
The third is the Rang De Basanti Syndrome, the romantic belief that protesting against the establishment confers moral superiority, regardless of whether one understands the cause for the protest or what comes next.
And when you combine all three in a Venn Diagram, you get Captain Overage Activist create by the combined powers of all three.
Revisit the first three here:

So, I didn’t want to do this, but am left with little choice. In mid-August, friends and I enquired with @captureatrip about a trip to Seoul. They asked us to deposit a sum and close the booking and threw in visas for free to get us to rush. Two of us three did; the third had her visa already in progress and chose to continue with Atlys.
Beyond basic enquiries over the next two days, there was ZERO movement on our visas. We were okay because it wasn’t our headache any way.
Now, @captureatrip and their visa partner awoke two weeks later, then gave VERY conflicting information on document requirements, made us send all of those documents printed, even those that could be done digitally, and every time I followed up, they had a new requirement, to the point that they then asked for MORE MONEY to process the visas as express. Then, the visas arrived after our onward flights were due, can you imagine?! The two of us lost two days of Seoul despite tickets being booked and when I finally received the visa, I had to book last minute flights to Delhi on the same day, costing me additionally.
After being in contact with their leadership throughout the process, sharing all the miscommunication, building an entire digital dossier, not only were they inconsiderate, they have refused to even refund the amount paid to them despite us eventually being forced to plan and go on our own.
We had used them a few years ago, and thus a friend suddenly thought to trust them again. But it has been a terrible experience. Highly recommend never using them. Want to go legal, so all help appreciated.

Sir, we read it as yoong Indi-en. And thanks a lot again!
I disagree with the Dehat outrage though.
Dehati and proud as I wrote in the Apologetic Indian.

I know this is getting a lot of hate, but the reason Europe is now America's bitch is because of that.
PS: That's not a sharp tie knot. Even a double windsor should taper into sharper.

It is not intimacy if it's not cringe.
My two cents is that all intimacy is cringe to the bystander and the spectator.
All Dems have to do to win is not to insist men are women
You sometimes wonder how Trump, who takes bribes from Pakistanis and Qataris, grabs women by their ****ies, obsesses over female and male anatomies during camapign speech, and is generally the ugliest, most corrupted, repugnant ogre you'll ever see in human form, managed to TWICE win US presidential elections.
And then you see this 👇. And the answer becomes clear.

I spent a week in Delhi, watching an extraordinary protest movement unfold. Here's what I saw, and what I think it means for India, and the world. nytimes.com/2026/10/26/opini…

And that's why Modi keeps winning :)
Serbia. And before that, Hungary. Proves one thing. You can rig elections. You can gerrymander elections. Which is exactly what Orban did. You can rule ruthlessly. You can term genuine anger and discontent as 'foreign funded', albeit with no proof. You can lie through and through. But people will show the way. The arc of history is long, and is sometimes convoluted. But it bends towards people who refuse to be silenced.
You have to be particularly delusional to claim life was better pre-Modi than it's now for the poorest (or the richest).
