Human work will have populated the space around all these problems such that the machines could brute force solutions.
This is honestly shocking. Three months ago, Hong Wang was awarded the Fields Medal for resolving the Kakeya conjecture in three dimensions. Today, OpenAI released a proposed proof of the conjecture in ALL dimensions. And that’s not all. It also announced a proposed existence proof for quantum chromodynamics and a proposed refutation of the Exponential Time Hypothesis. Experts say that, if confirmed, these would be Nobel prize and Turing award level discoveries respectively. A journalist just asked me: “What remains for humans to do?” I think it’s becoming increasingly clear that more and more problem solving will be automated. But humans will remain crucial in determining the direction of discovery. Deciding which problems are worth solving. Because the value of a discovery depends on our needs, our priorities and the kind of world we want to build. There will be a shift from problem solving to problem setting. I also think there will be huge individual differences. People with strong critical thinking skills, creativity and imagination will be supercharged by AI. People without those skills risk surrendering to it. I’m particularly concerned for children, who may never develop these skills. I think epistemic literacy - how to distinguish information from knowledge - is the single most important skill we should be teaching.

Whether or not anyone builds it... everyone dies. The future is uncertain. Your impact doesn't have to be.

To the spineless actors of Hollywood this is how it looks when you don't speak with tongue but SPINE. Here is the British actor "simon pegg" calling gaza a nightmare for children. " Many are so traumatized that they can't eat, sleep or even speak.

Well, well, well... 80% of "donations" to Nigel Farage’s party are from donors or companies based overseas. This is not normal. And the public deserves to know what these super-rich donors want back in return.

How we fight inflation doesn't just matter for the economy. It matters for democracy. If government decisions leave people poorer, more indebted and less secure, we risk deepening the conditions that have emboldened the far-right. 🔗 My article for the @FT. Link below.

LOL. This claim is based on literally nothing. Not scientific evidence, nor rational argumentation. It's just an article of faith folks in the Rationalist cult accept as part of their apocalyptic eschatology.
COPE: If a massive AI disaster occurs, it won't kill *everyone.* STRAIGHT DOPE: Nate Soares: "It's actually pretty hard to get an AI disaster scenario where it kills only half the people." Hoog: So you think it will be 100%? @so8res: Probably yeah, that's sort of the default.

This is the sleight of hands AI labs and EAs always pull. First, they make the same critiques engineers like myself claim (i.e. AI is unpredictable and unreliable, and undermines democracy). Yet they caveat it with "unless you have the right guardrails" which is not only false...
Dario Amodei on autonomous weapons: Using AI armies would be 'fundamentally undermining' democracy. "AI can be unpredictable and unreliable... It's a little unlike human soldiers, isn't it? With human soldiers, like, you know, they're supposed to follow this thing called the constitution. And if they get orders that contravene the constitution or that just seem, you know, morally abhorrent in some way, then they can just refuse to follow orders, whereas the AI models, that isn't true. It's kind of fundamentally undermining to democracy unless you have the right, the right guardrails on it. And our law hasn't really caught up." Anthropic co-founders Dario and Daniela Amodei on The Builders with @WalterIsaacson

Looking forward to BBC following suit.
This is quite something ! Serbian RTV channel starts yesterday's bulletin by apologizing to viewers👇 "For years, we failed to fulfill our duty. We kept silent, turned a blind eye, reported events one-sidedly and failed to ask necessary questions. We owe our viewers an apology”
