this is very clearly an interface and interaction design problem, not something inherent to agents. the system is designed in a way that encourages maximal decision deference to the machine, under the guise of machine intelligence. it is also designed in a way that encourages passive, disengaged interaction with the system. anyone even remotely familiar with decision architecture and the decision support v automation distinction can instantly recognize that the way information is structured and presented, and the role the user is placed in within the user-machine interaction dynamic is one where the design intent is for the system to make the decision (as many as possible!), and the intended role of the user is to approve it -- ideally approving as few decisions as possible. this drives engagement in a facebook-y social media way, but leads to vastly worse outcomes. the results are evident. also -- while (obviously) I'm a big proponent of thinking deeply about how we rearchitect organizations and thoughtfully design work, I do think this particular issue is a design problem *first*, and an organizational architecture problem *only* insofar as organizations are forced to behave defensively against adversarial product design as long as better alternatives are not available.
New Anthropic research: How AI agents shape experts' judgment calls When experts delegate work to an agent, do they still make the key decisions? We tested this in a randomized trial with 50 professional data analysts.

“I think it’s stunning that someone would say that harms [from AI] happening now—which are felt most acutely by [the] historically minoritized: Black people, women, disabled people, precarious workers, etc—that those harms aren’t existential.” @mer__edith fastcompany.com/90892235/res…

🇫🇷 “Bordering on Mockery” / “A Full-Blown Parade of Hypocrites” Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu offered students a package of concessions on Monday that student groups rejected immediately, vowing to keep protesting, LCP reported. The offer reportedly included: 🔹 Replacing Parcoursup, France's centralized university admissions system, in 2028 🔹 15,000 new places in higher education and scholarships indexed to inflation 🔹 A cap of 28 students in 10th-grade classes from 2027 🔹 €4 billion in loans to renovate schools and €1 billion for universities Louis Letoublon, vice president of the high school group Les Lycéens!, called the 15,000 places "bordering on mockery," and the Union étudiante gave Lecornu "0/10." Groups were also angered that Lecornu met education influencers that morning, one of whom announced the measures on TV before the unions were received. UNEF's Manon Moret called it "scandalous," LCP reported. Student unions are demanding 10 measures worth €10 billion and plan to march again Saturday alongside the Yellow Vests, then join a national strike on Nov. 5. --- 🎥 1: Sabrine Kharbach, Union étudiante spokesperson, outside Matignon called the discussions a “full-blown parade of hypocrites.” Source: BFMTV 🎥2: Content creator Mathilde Fouqué after meeting Lecornu at Matignon. "They started to apologize. Now the national broadcaster is like, 'we didn't really report that.' Everyone's like, shut the fuck up." Serbian actor and activist Bojana Novaković on how Serbians are reacting as state broadcasters apologize for years of pro-government coverage.
This is quite something ! Serbian RTV channel starts yesterday's bulletin by apologizing to viewers👇 "For years, we failed to fulfill our duty. We kept silent, turned a blind eye, reported events one-sidedly and failed to ask necessary questions. We owe our viewers an apology”

It's time to nationalize social media. Zuckerberg and Elon are Trump cucks and they have far too much power. Democracy is being destroyed by Epstein class billionaire perverts.
🚨 BREAKING: Meta has suspended Angie Nixon's organizing account ahead of the midterms. Nixon is the Democratic nominee for US Senate in Florida.

Incredibly based article. Nobody is holding a gun to your head and telling you to end the world faster. You can just not do the bad thing. I agree with meta-point that people get way too obsessed with “game theory” and “incentive structures” at times too. You can just be good.
This is a good and important piece, with plenty of spicy takes and language for good measure. Gift link: vox.com/future-perfect/50787…

Today marks 100 days since Andy Burnham became Prime Minister. He could have stopped arms sales to the genocidal apartheid state of Israel on day one. He chose not to. For 100 days, he has willingly continued selling UK arms that enable the genocide of the Palestinian people. 100 days of personal complicity. Stop ALL arms sales to Israel NOW.

Another story impossible to imagine in any other administration: the president's son goes hunting with a Russian criminal who is part of Putin's security entourage
The trip highlights the remarkable relationship between a son of the US president and a tycoon with a criminal record who has close ties to Vladimir Putin’s personal security service. Intelligence experts say such connections are ripe for manipulation. ft.trib.al/p0LBRYI

To the spineless actors of Hollywood this is how it looks when you don't speak with tongue but SPINE. Here is the British actor "simon pegg" calling gaza a nightmare for children. " Many are so traumatized that they can't eat, sleep or even speak.

Well, well, well... 80% of "donations" to Nigel Farage’s party are from donors or companies based overseas. This is not normal. And the public deserves to know what these super-rich donors want back in return.
