There is much to celebrate this week, but I want to call specific attention to historic gains Democratic women made in representation:
- For the first time in history, over 100 Democratic women will serve in the U.S. House.
- At least 16 Democratic women will serve in the Senate.
- At least 14 Democratic women will serve as governors, a record high.
- A record of 2,600 Democratic women running for seats in state legislatures helped flip 12 majorities and break 11 supermajorities.
- Four states elected their first woman governor: Georgia, Minnesota, Ohio, and Tennessee.
- @KeishaBottoms will be the first Black woman to serve as a governor.
- @DebHaalandNM will be the first Native American woman to serve as a governor.
- @GinaHinojosaTX will be the first Latina to serve as governor of Texas.
- @peggyflanagan will be the first Native American woman to serve in the Senate.
I am beyond excited to see these extraordinary people and public servants tackle accountability, affordability, and our other challenges to make life better for everyone in this country.
Congratulations to everyone who ran: win or lose, fighting for what's right is always worth it.
Parenting is a very dynamic, non-steady-state journey. Throw in 2 careers, and you are constantly recalibrating priorities, ambitions, time, and sometimes even who you thought you were.
🔥 Big news from SeaLion Energy! I presented at the @ARPAE CIRCULAR kickoff, sharing how our nano activation layer extends battery life 10X & prevents fires.
A breakthrough for EVs, grid storage & beyond! Excited to collaborate on the future of sustainable batteries. ⚡🔋
After 2 decades in the US, I voted for the first time in a Presidential election! Exercising this right means so much to me as a citizen, woman, immigrant, mother, scientist. #ElectionDay

I woke up seeing 60+ people are dead, thinking Valencia will be a turning point, will dominate the news, wake everybody up to climate change. It’s not though is it. The budget is dominating reporting in the UK. Public don’t care. We are determined to send our children over a cliff to their deaths without even engaging with this issue.

100 years from now, when all the vicissitudes of politics, social media, etc. in 2024 are long forgotten, people will still remember this as a milestone in humanity’s conquest of space.

On the awarding of this year’s #NobelPeacePrize to Nihon Hidankyo, the Norwegian Nobel Committee wishes to acknowledge one encouraging fact: No nuclear weapon has been used in war in nearly 80 years.
The extraordinary efforts of Nihon Hidankyo and other representatives of the Hibakusha have contributed greatly to the establishment of the nuclear taboo. It is therefore alarming that today this taboo against the use of nuclear weapons is under pressure.
The nuclear powers are modernising and upgrading their arsenals; new countries appear to be preparing to acquire nuclear weapons; and threats are being made to use nuclear weapons in ongoing warfare. At this moment in human history, it is worth reminding ourselves what nuclear weapons are: the most destructive weapons the world has ever seen.

2024 #NobelPrize laureate in chemistry David Baker has succeeded with the almost impossible feat of building entirely new kinds of proteins.
In recent years, one incredible protein creation after the other has emerged from Baker’s laboratory. They range from new nanomaterials where up to 120 proteins spontaneously link together…
