Disappointing news. Fact is we will not see this drug for several years. But since these were extremely high risk folks, it seems like there should at least be a signal or trend of MACE reduction with pelacarsen drastically lowering Lp(a) that would at least make continuing the trial unethical. Might it be that high intensity statin alone without Lp(a) reduction is the best that can be offered? Would statin plus a PCSK9i (and its powerful ability to reduce apoB have been a better choice? At least that is an off-label choice at present
News from @Novartis Readout for HORIZON Ph3 cardiovascular outcomes trial testing pelacarsen - ASO targeting Lipoprotein(a) now *2026* (earlier guidance had been 2025) An event driven trial and event rate seems lower than initially projected novartis.com/sites/novartis_…

Horrendous hemorrhagic complications with OAC in ESRD with AFib : “The 1-year rates for major or clinically relevant non-major bleeding were 32% and 26% in apixaban and warfarin groups, respectively”. Worse mortality for apixaban as well (26% vs 18%) ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/….

Give a talk on tips for getting a paper published for early career docs. I had fun putting it together with my own reflections as a jr. author, sr. author, peer reviewer, and editor. I thought I would share a 🧵 @svm_tweets #ACCFIT #SVMNextGen #publishing

Another variation of this theme is assessing AS in A Fib with different cycle lengths. #Nkomo @MayoClinicCV have the data that a single highest LVOT and AV velocities can reflect the severity of AS , better than averaging 3 or 5 cycles which is time consuming. See figure below.
Replying to @RowseMD
@RowseMD Post PVC LV contraction is potentiated + increased LVEDV, increased SV, result = increased gradient & PP in AS & decreased PP in HCM. May be LV in AS has novel response under GA in OR?@adnanalkhouli @JaeKOh2 @RickNishimura @fuadfehmi @mahali87
