The devastating diagnostic labelling in psychiatry: When a friend of mine was admitted to hospital in her twenties with acute psychosis, the psychiatrist said: “You are schizophrenic!” She felt she stopped existing as a person, with autonomy and dignity. She was a bag of symptoms they took control over - no longer someone that her carers needed to respect - and the following years were devastating for her. As a psychologist, she now helps people come off psychiatric drugs and heals many psychoses with psychotherapy.

Balalaika is a historical Russian three string musical instrument. It's known for the Russian folk music. But there is one Russian balalaika player, Alexey Arkhipovsky, who took it to a completely different level. He's known to be a "balalaika Paganini". Take a few minutes of your life and listen to this. It's called "Cinderella".

There are times when I wonder whether “the Russians are coming for us” is dumber than “there’s a novel deadly virus” or “CO2 is boiling the planet”. But then I wake up and realize that a substantial swathe of humanity has reached absolute stupidity, making comparison pointless.

The robot that displaced a factory worker in 2019 made you richer. Not the factory owner. You. This confuses people who treat jobs as the end goal of economic life rather than the means. Henry Hazlitt demolished this error in 1946 in "Economics in One Lesson." When a machine replaces ten workers on an assembly line, those ten workers represent released labor, which redirects toward production the economy couldn't afford before. The machine, meanwhile, drops the price of the manufactured good. You buy the same shirt for less. That gap between what you pay now and what you paid before is real purchasing power, a raise you received without your employer signing anything. Let's look at televisions. A 60-inch 4K television cost around $1,500 in 2015. Today you buy comparable picture quality for under $350. Automated manufacturing drove that collapse. The factories didn't become charitable organizations; they competed for your dollars by deploying capital more efficiently, and the savings landed in your pocket. This process terrifies politicians because the benefits disperse invisibly across millions of consumers while the displaced workers are visible, concentrated, and angry. So politicians respond by subsidizing inefficiency, taxing automation (as the EU seriously proposed in 2017), or erecting tariffs that punish you for wanting cheaper goods. Every such intervention forces you to pay more than the market price, transferring your purchasing power to a protected producer and their employees. Free market thinkers have stressed one fact since Mises and Böhm-Bawerk formalized capital theory: rising capital intensity, meaning more and better machines per worker, is the entire mechanism behind rising real wages historically. Britain improved living standards between 1760 and 1850 by replacing hand-operated looms with machines, freeing labor to produce medicine, railways, and eventually the electricity grid. Automation is capital accumulation made visible. You benefit from every iteration of it, provided the state leaves the price system alone to do its work.

The denial of their own fault & responsibility is why they never change, never learn, never grow. They’re unwilling to reckon with their own shadow, they can do no wrong, everything is always the rights fault, so they stay stuck in an infantile stage of emotional development.

Neil Oliver compares voting to a toy steering wheel given to a child—it provides the illusion of control while the real direction of travel is controlled elsewhere. "The beginning of the solution is just to realise that you're inside a car that you're not driving, and the pedals and wheels—that you're invited to think have any bearing on the direction—are just plastic." "It's humiliating and embarrassing to admit that you've been gulled by a fiction. But once enough people realise it, then effectively the lights in the theatre—to mix the metaphor—come on, and you realise that you're just looking at actors on a stage... and you can see the strings, and the trap doors, and the badly painted sets." "And then you look for the brightly illuminated exits and you walk out the door."

Former FDA officials rebut the claim that FDA’s black box warning in 2004 - that antidepressants increase the risk of suicide in children and adolescents - has increased suicides. bit.ly/45a4oU0. The claim is absurd and is based on dishonest research. Antidepressants kill people, not only because of suicides but in other ways. Basta. Don’t get hooked on depression pills. Avoid them.
